Good Thursday, everyone. We are rolling our way into the Labor Day holiday weekend and it’s looking more and more like showers and thunderstorms will be around. The boomers will be along and ahead of a cold front that ushers in a MUCH cooler pattern.
Let’s start with where we are today…
Temps will top out in the mid and upper 80s in the east with 90 or a bit better across the west and far north. Humidity levels will make it feel warmer than it actually is. Sound familiar? Isolated showers and storms will also be possible…
A weak front will put the brakes on across the state today and be oriented from northwest to southeast. This boundary will hang out for the next few days and help to fire up additional showers and storms from Friday into Saturday.
That will be followed by a strong cold front swinging into the region by Labor Day. That will also crank out some storms and the GFS shows some decent rain numbers through Monday…
The best threat for storms will come Saturday through Monday. While it won’t be a washout… clusters of storms will be moving across the state during this time and will have impact outdoor activities.
Check out the cool air diving in behind the front…
Temps by Tuesday and Wednesday will likely be in the 70s for highs with lows hitting the 50-55 degree range.
The European Model shows an even cooler shot of air to follow that up by the end of next week…
It’s back to the cooler than normal pattern we’ve had for much of the year.
Make it a great day and take care.
Even with the recent heat temps are still going to finish below normal for August across Kentucky.
And this summer overall has been a bargain.
Here are 90 degree days through 8/28 for the past few years.
Louisville:
2013: 26
2012: 54
2011: 51
2010: 66
Lexington:
2013: 12
2012: 40
2011: 26
2010: 31
Thanks for the stats.
I remember 1984 was a pleasently cool summer. Seems I recall it was roughly ten years ago (2004ish) that Lexington did not even reach 90.

The Euro has still been consistent with that cold front CB is talking about . That’d mean highs in 60’s. Hopefully this is summers last fight for hot and humid air. I’m done…. http://tinyurl.com/lv44xjp (highs in Celsius)
60’s sounds good to me!!!
I second that!! Even though we have not had much heat and humidity this summer, this recent stretch is enough for me!
Can’t wait to turn off the ac and open the windows. Before long, the nice fragrance of firewood will be in the air.
I agree, anytime of year temps go above 85 it is to hot to enjoy the outdoors to me, if you like temps in the 90s you must be related to reptiles!
Or have a nice backyard swimming pool 😉
Kentucky can keep the rain; however Virginia would love the cooler air. So bring it:) Have a safe, happy weekend everyone!
Where is a good place to research regional snowfall over the 10 years for the state of KY. I appreciate any help you guys can give me. Thanks
Wow, Chris! nearing the end of summer and we are still getting teased with hot weather. Just doesn’t come to stay. Oh well. Nice weather sounds okay, too. Just think…COLLEGE football kicks off tonight! Looking forward to that!
