Good Saturday and welcome to the Labor Day Weekend. The threat for showers and thunderstorms will increase as we roll through the next next few days. That will be followed by a blast of much cooler air that takes hold of our pattern for much of next week.
I’m not going to bore you with a lot of weather jargon today. Many of us will be watching football or taking part in outdoor activities. Those with plans on the outside today and into the weekend should have a plan B to be safe. Clusters of showers and storms will come calling during this time and the GFS continues to point toward more than 1″ of rain for many…
Here’s what regional radar is seeing today…
Temps outside of the storms will continue to run into the upper 80s to around 90. That is about to change as a strong cold front moves through here by Monday night. The air behind it is much cooler than normal…
Highs will drop into the 70s and lows will hit the 50s.
Make it a great day and take care.

The storm we are having right now in northwest Lexington is NO JOKE!
I know, C-R-A-Z-Y. Flash flooding and the downpour is soo bad with the winds, that the rain is coming into my house in the front door. Also some very excessive lightning! The lightning woke me up like a bomb went off.i hear the ambulance sirens going off at this moment, everyone stay safe!
Lexington still getting hammered? Be carefull guys.
The lightning/thunder has finally moved out of my part of Bourbon County. We did not get any wind at all and 7/10ths of an inch of rain. No complaints, although the lightning was crazy and my two idiot horses walked OUT of the barn to stand in the field.
Very sorry to see what happened to the Lex area!
East Frankfort got a little thunder and lightning and about .25 inch of rain, nothing like Lexington got but atleast enough rain to settle the dust for a while!
Got a quick 1.6″ at my house in northern Jessamine. Lots of lightning to go with all that rain. Saw several signal lights on flash as I went into Lexington and saw KU trucks working on some lines in a neighborhood.
At 1:15pm, the heat index ranged from 106 in WKY to 65 in far EKY.
That’s a hell of a range.
104 heat index in Frankfort, hottest day of the summer, dew point 77, now that is ugly heat on anyone’s scale!
Temp 93, heat index 109, by the lake in east Frankfort, come on cold front!
Haha you’re hyping the heat! 😉
Did today’s rain in Lex move us up the list of wettest August & wettest summer?
Here comes the rain. This has been an oppressive day so far
I went to sleep today around 10:30 PM. I had forgotten I turned the A/C Heat Pump OFF while it was storming. I do that because I get paranoid of a power on/off situation while the compressor is running causing it to go off….I forgot to turn the A/C back on. I woke up just now to another crazy storm……..and it’s 79 degrees in this house
August is going out with a bang! Looks like autumn will arrive next week. I’m a-ok with that.
Fore sure, east Frankfort has been hammered tonight with rain, the most since August 12th by far, bring in the cool weather now.
Chris nailed the forecast while most mets underplayed the rain chances today!
