Good Friday afternoon and Happy New Year! 2010 is ending on a booming note across the region as a significant severe weather outbreak has been playing out today across the Mississippi River Valley. This is a long and ahead of a powerful plains storm and a cold front that will swing eastward across the region tonight into New Year’s Day.
A TORNADO WATCH is out for parts of western Kentucky until 7pm local time. Here is a look at the watch and latest warnings…
For the latest on severe weather in western Kentucky… give check out our friend Meteorologist Beau Dodson’s Blog . He does a great job for the people in the western part of the state.
You can track the storms here…
Showers and thunderstorms will increase for the rest of the state overnight into Saturday. Heavy rains will be of concern across eastern Kentucky where better than one inch of rain is likely.
Looking ahead… the European Model is showing a storm during the time frame we outlined to watch…
That said… it appears the model is having some SERIOUS issues with how all this plays out. Trust NO model beyond 4 or 5 days.
I will try to update things this evening. I will also be using twitter to send out updates and any warnings that come out.
Happy New Year and take care.

Thanks Chris and happy New Year to you and your family! I’ll be sure to watch for updates on Twitter!
Happy New Year to everyone! The wind outside is energizing! Here is a blog I wrote about the New Year as well. http://helenbukulmez.com/2010/12/30/new-year-2011/
Thanks, Chris! It is a VERY windy day here in Berea. Perfect day to open the windows and air out the house. Take care. 😉
Looks like the storms are getting close to Western KY, according to the radar returns. Hope it doesn’t get too bad. I really would NOT like to end the year on that note….but, we will see, I guess. Happy New Year everyone!
met beau at the kentucky weather confrence, good link chris.
that 12z euro did have some problems shown by taking the 540 line south of san diego out west for day 7-10, not to sure on that run. the gfs and ecmwf weeklies for the next 2 weeks are in decent overall agreement. normal week 1 then colder than normal week 2.
Another IP Ban?
Windy in Mt. Sterling today. 60 degrees last day, thunder first day. Enjoy the break. Chris rocks!
Wow…64* at CVG today. Too bad I was not able to get out and enjoy it like I would have liked.
No matter how good or bad 2010 was for you, hope your 2011 is way better!
Your internet provider in Johnson County has already been contacted. Funny thing is I know who you are as you are doing the same thing with my WSAZ blog. Harrasment can go both ways. PS… be a man!
So, you consider my comments on this blog to be harassment? All I have ever done is point out flaws in your forecasts, just like you love to do with the NWS. I have never once said anything offensive or threatening toward you. If speaking the truth on a public internet blog is harassment, I guess I’m guilty. I do remember you saying once that I had better hope that you never meet me. So, if you want to do it this way, let’s do it.
If you can’t take criticism, don’t post your thoughts on the internet.
Furthermore, I have never posted on the WSAZ site in any way, shape, or fashion, and my ISP will be able to prove that.
One last thing, how do you suggest that I be a man?
I really appreciate your professional approach. These are pieces of very useful information that will be of great use for me in future. Thanks for it.
I’ve wished to post resembling like this on my blog and this gave me excellent idea. Thank You!
