Merry White Christmas to one and all. Here is hoping your day is filled with joy, family, friends and food and this little thing called SNOW. This is something we have been dreaming about for many years and Santa finally thought we were good enough to deserve one.
I will keep this post rather brief since it is Christmas Day. Here are some snow thoughts floating around in my head with candy canes and sugar plums…
– Morning snow will taper off across the region after depositing up to an inch in the far north to as much as 4″ across parts of the south.
– Light snow and snow showers will be with us this afternoon with temps in the upper 20s.
– Widespread snow showers and squalls will develop this evening and continue through Sunday and early Monday with more accumulations likely.
– The highest additional snow totals will be across southeastern Kentucky where several inches will fall. This should lead to a major snowfall for many counties. Here is what i’m expecting in terms of additional snowfall on top of what you wake up to this Christmas Morning…
– Many roads will be snow covered early today then become snow covered again late tonight into Sunday as snows move back in.
Here are your tracking toys…

Got 2 or better inches on the ground in Woodford county. Won’t complain. Feel blessed to have on a Christmas Eve.
Remember the snow Is Gods gift but more importantly the reason for the season is Gods gift of his son. It’s what it’s all about.
Weird that the NWS in Jackson has a Winter Storm Watch out for Bell, Harlan, Letcher, and Pike Co’s for 4-8″ more from Saturday evening into Monday morning.
But the map above has left Bell Co out? lol
Everything’s white again in NW Lex. I feel like the ground had been white for so LONG now. Merry Christmas everyone!

Just measured, got 2 inches of new snow here in Morehead, but it is snowing as I type. Hope we see more, I really would love a couple more inches… One note: it never got much above the 32 degree mark in Rowan county last week so most of the last couple snows where still on the ground..8-)
Merry Christmas everyone. Stay safe!
Just over 2 inches in my back yard in Winchester with light flurries. Merry Chirstmas everyone!
Merry Christmas to everyone here at the blog, especially all the regulars like MJ, Wxman, Andy, Tim, Rolo, Mitch, Coffeelady, Vinny, Ryan, Chas, etc. You all make this place a wonderful place to share weather info and have a good time talking weather. I know I don’t post here as much as I use to but I still check in to see what’s going on at home every day.
Chris, thanks once again for creating this wonderful community and sharing so much of your weather knowledge with us. You truly are an inspiration to a young Meteorologist. I hope you and your family have a wonderful and blessed Christmas.
It’s great to be home for Christmas, first white Christmas I’ve seen in several years.
Merry Christmas to all especially Bailey Claus. I’ve been watching that gulf moisture since early last night. It is really building. I just watched CNN weather and they show east KY getting another 8 inches by Monday evening. Granted its CNN but it is from the gulf moisture. They have the low really tracking further west before nailing the Northeast.
Merry Christmas, everyone! Hope that you are having a wonderful day!
I have a huge favor to ask, please! We are scheduled to leave for Bowling Green in a couple of hours but the road conditions have us concerned. Does anyone know how roads are from Lexington to Bowling Green? I went to the KY Transportation website and it reports difficult driving conditions the entire way! 🙁
Thank you for your help!! Merry Christmas!
Shane,
Do you think we’re going to get in on the Southern system? CNN is showing all of EKY getting another 8 inches at least by Monday.
Strummer, you might want to check the webcams CB has posted, they might show something. I’m sorry I couldn’t be of more help.
Whatever you do, be extremely cautious.
Merry Christmas to you, too!
3 1/2 – 4 in. here in Whitesburg (Letcher Co.) and there is still light snow falling. Hope everyone is having a very Merry Christmas. Be careful if you have to get on the road!
Merry Christmas everyone! Woe up to between 3 and 4 inches of beautiful snow on the ground! Had some light bursts a little bit ago, and looking at the radar, and hoping for even more!

You might try calling AAA and seeing if they have anything to tell you or just call the local law inforcement and ask, I’m sure they would rather you call and check then you have an accident. Just take your time, and becareful! Good luck! and merry Christmas
Merry Cristmas!
Thanks for all the great diologue, conversation and interest in weather in KY!!
Chris does a great job and is te best forecaster in KY in my opinion. It also great how he keeps the updates current!
Thanks again for a great year and just think most years we would have had next to nothing by now. With the way things are going maybe there is a big one out there before this Winters over. I like our chances!
WW
Wonderful WHITE Christmas here in Nicholasville, I wanted to wish all my blog friends a very Merry Christmas. Light snow still falling. Looks like it will be gone by the end of the week…..is there another BIG cold spell after new years, or will the kids finally go back to school lol 🙂
2″ in Richmond and light snow. Noit sure if we are going to make the 3″ I expected for this area, but still a day to go.
Ho Ho Hooo!

anyway i dont see what CB giving for tomm, er it coming from, yea upslope might set in for those 4 or 5 counties but we only got 1.7 inches with this roiund and right now I say its another bubba buster. but I satill believe, like for chris to tell me were it coming fromm tom for the area. we know the upslope can get letcher/harlan etc.
It’s a winter wonderland in Pikeville.Merry Christmas to Chris and family and all my blog family.
Shane good to hear from you.
Rolo the song for today from me to all of you is this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSE8T9TmLEU&feature=related
Wow rolo big spread from your place to mine I measured 4″ this morning!!! My road is still snow covered but its sure pretty to look at it was a heavy wet snow that stuck to everything
road is clear here on my end still ended up with a tick over 3 inches from round one hoping round 2 will start soon
good stuff my dear.
What is going to happen that would cause NOAAJackson to predict that the highs will be 47* and 55* later in the week? Are they having a laugh!
It looks to be about 1/2 to 2 inches of new snow here at my house just north of Hazard. Fluffy snow. Merry Christmas everyone!!!!!!
Nope thats literal.
http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/nwprod/analysis/namer/gfs/12/images/gfs_ten_168l.gif
Looking ahead to next week, we could have a HUGE severe weather event next Sunday. Look at this 850 mb jet!!!!!
http://www.twisterdata.com/index.php?prog=forecast&model=GFS&grid=3&model_yyyy=2010&model_mm=12&model_dd=25&model_init_hh=12&fhour=192¶meter=WSPD&level=850&unit=MB&maximize=n&mode=singlemap&sounding=n&output=image&view=large&archive=false
That is seriously insane.
So is this the oft cited ‘flip’? Or an early January thaw or just the perversity of Central KY weather!! What a mess this is going to be…..
I was wondering the same thing, bet we get warm, then turn around to artic again lol
We didn’t get much snow here in Shelbyville/Louisville. Maybe an inch at the most.
Only about an inch here in Lawrenceburg. Hoping for another inch or so tonight!
All I want for Christmas is a RED RYDER Carbon Action 200 shot Range Model Air Rifle with a compass in the stock
Coming down again in Corbin….Pile it up again!!
Can anyone comment on the condition of I-65 from E-Town to Nashville?
Beginning to snow lightly here in Floyd co. Radar is looking good for some more acumalating snow this eve. and ton.
Dear Santa: All I want for Christmas is a Red Ryder carbon action 200 shot range model air rifle with a compass in the stock
Extreme cold and snow all month long… then the new year comes in with severe thunderstorms. A weather fanatic can’t ask for much more than this…
Snowing in Pikeville again
Are we going to have a slight or moderate risk for severe weather? What does it look like as far as temps or snow fall after the storms? Just wandering
timing is questionable. squall line likely.
merry christmas to you as well.
roads are covering again in Knox and Whitley counties with new snow
been snowing at a pretty good clip here in knox co. for a while now and I have recieved another 1″ of snow since about 6pm!! for a CHristmas total in my backyard of 5″ today…:)…and its still coming down moderate…
we have bout another half so far so thats almost 4 for us seen people slid off the road coming through woodbine a bit ago
Got nearly 3″ in my back yard from last night and this morning. We’ve had light to sometimes moderate snow since about 4:30…picked up 1.5″ since 4:30.
The set up looks similar to the October 26 outbreak. Low instability, high shear, perfect for squall line.
That is extremely true.
Way to early to know if SPC will outlook this area. But the GFS is pretty consistent in showing a strong squall line sweeping through here with a negatively tilted system, and this time of the year when you see that it means business.
Just drove back to Lexington from London. I-75 is a mess from London up to Richmond.
been in a ditch sinve 6, just got out., got bout 2.6 inches of snow.
good to see the BLIZZARD TIM coming out as warm air and a warmer monrth apporach.
predict 2 floods in jauuaray, with no more thasn 4 inchesof snw. feburary warm as well as a whole and then march we get couple ok snows with spikes in temps on low side. winter worst is over folks and in glad. it got slick out there this evening and i for one say hit on it.
ready for tornado warrnings and 70s.
ok going spotlihghting asnd gety some deer meat see ya.
Being stuck in that ditch must have effected not only your ability to type coherently but also the ability to reason that only a fool would ascertain at this point in the Season that Winter is over, just my thoughts, take them for what you will 🙂
I’m glad we finally got the hard to get white Christmas. It’s the first one I’ve had in my 32 years. Hope Chris and everyone out there on the blog had a very Merry Christmas. This has been one to remember. I just hope everyone stays safe and warm through it all. May God Bless Everyone and keep us all safe and warm for the rest of the holiday season and into the New Year.
actually it hasn’t effected it at all you just need to learn the language. The rolo language that is
Kind of disappointed that we didn’t get more snow last night and today. We got about 2 inches in my yard in Georgetown. Not doing anything outside as of right now. I am glad that it was a “white” Christmas this year. It’s been a while since we saw one around here.
2″ in Richmond. Better than 0″, so will take it 🙂
Kind of expected more out of this one, but east and NE will get a slammin’.
I agree! I love you Rolo! You really add to this blog. I look forward to your posts my friend.
I just let my little dog out, and it looks beautiful! It’s been snowing again for a little while. It’s a winter wonder land.
Merry Christmas again everyone!
Oh, I’m just north of Hazard. I live on the top of a hill, and it’s beautiful!
Thanks for the info Wxman, guess we will just have to wait and see what the spc has to say towards the end of the week, but I have a feeling it could get rough around here
Steady light snow in my area of Pulaski Co. Storm total of around 4.5″
MikeM where are you in Pulaski Couty? I am in south central portion and it is not snowing on this end of the county…at lest not now.
Eastern Pulaski
So, you love a guy that had a generator stolen for him, takes Xanaxes and drinks liquor before getting on the roads, and kills deer illegally. What does that say about you?
We have about 5 or 6 inches on the ground here in Bath Co. None of our earlier snow ever melted. Is it going to snow the majority tonight or Sunday and Sunday night?
stupid moderation!
We have about 5 or 6 inches on the ground because our earlier snow never melted. Is it supposed to snow more tonight or mainly tomorrow?
Snow still falling in Pikeville. It is beautiful.
Chris I caught the Winter forecast on WSAZ you and Mr.Cavalier two as Rolo says Legends in the business.Did not like the second half of winter forecast Lol.Slightly above normal temps and to watch out for the rains and I believe Tony said the dreaded Ice word but it was a great show.
Jesus loves him to so what does that say about him?
Cool, silly me, I was attempting to correlate ones ability to express thought in written form with somehow being related to the importance of what they had to say; tell me, how many times do we see Chris mispell things on the blog? I grew up in the age of typewriters, we didnt have electronic spell check, even then, things being mispelled was not acceptable, I dont accept them in my classroom and we as a society should not enable those that insist to use them in blogging; stepping down from my soap box now.
