A hearty hello to one and all. Our blast of January is pushing into the bluegrass state and I wanted to go ahead and get a tracking post up. I will keep this going into Tuesday and then update things later in the day.
Arctic cold and snow will drop into the region overnight into early Tuesday. This band of snow will be a fast mover, but should be able to put down light accumulations for many. A coating to one inch will be possible across the region… especially on grassy and elevated surfaces. The timing on this mess means the morning commute could get a little tricky for some.
That’s why a Winter Weather Advisory is out for central and eastern Kentucky…
Keep an eye on a band of snow showers and flurries trying to dive in here from the Great Lakes by the afternoon hours.
Temps today will be frigid with low and middle 30s for highs. Wind gusts of 20-30mph will make it feel like its in the teens at times. Brr!
I have you all set to track the snow and cold…

Enjoy the blast of winter and take care.
Bring it! Ready to see some snow in the air, even though there won’t be much on the ground……that is okay. It is still early in the winter season or late in the fall season…..
Thanks for the tracking toys, Chris. 🙂
Everyone have a good and safe night and morning commute. By the way, it is raining now in Somerset. Nothing heavy, but raining.
Still on the warm side here in Laurel County 56 as of 1230 AM very light mist and wind is picking up. Hope to a little SNOW comes our way, I’m slighty optimistic after viewing the radar. Snow dancers keep on dancing.
Snow on the ground in lawrenceburg as of 4:30 A.M.
36*, winds 10 -18; spitting cold rain.
Snowing now
Started snowing about 5:15 and now at 6:00 the ground is covered and still snowing here in Irvine. Oh, if conditions were right!
Yup winter is here precip gets here temps are above freezing precip leaves temps drop to below freezing sounds like a typical winter
Sorry for you. Have a nice coating of snow here. 29 degrees now. Snowed pretty steadily from 3:00 until 6:00. It was in the 60’s yesterday afternoon.
I’m sure this has happened several times in the past – but I’m trying to remember , having lived in Lexington for 17 years now, having this cold and snow this early……I mean, it’s STILL the first half of November…..
The last time I remember putting snow on the ground this early was October 30, 1993. I hope this winter turn out to be like ’93-’94
Beautiful first snow here this morn!!!!!! Love it!!!!!!
Congrats to the Weather Service and the models and Chris and everybody who nailed this forecast. About an inch in southern Madison. Very pretty
Inch on the nose in south-eastern Lincoln county.
Some snow presently coming down in Nashville TN with the very gusty winds.
News outlets showing viewer pics of light coatings on car tops just north of here.
Recent wind gust of 30 mph clocked in Nashville, so very bitter wind chills.
Nice little dusting here in east Frankfort, nice start for so early, still 29 degrees, ouch!!
Per the forecast map, it looked like the further south you went, the less chance for any snow. As such, I was very pleased to see Berea this morning looking like a winter wonderland of light snow completely covering everything except the roads, and then see hardly anything up in Lexington itself; ruler showing 1.25″ of wet snow on top of car and on the deck.
Last winter, it was always the other way around with Berea missing out on the forecasted measurable snow by being either too far north or too far south. This is a trend I hope continues this winter.
I hope it isn’t as this is what we got out of our coating to 1 inch prediction http://www.facebook.com/?ref=tn_tnmn#!/photo.php?fbid=10202285689254214&set=o.119025971579347&type=1&theater
Andy you in Louisville?
Nope
Good snow cover in Harrodsburg. Near an inch at its peak. Snow did not melt away quickly. Still snow covered at my residence as of 11am.
We got about an inch here on the eastern end of Lincoln county, and as of 11:30, its still on the ground. I hope to see plenty more of it this winter.
Last years first snow accumulation in Frankfort was on December 21st, hopefully today’s much earlier snow is a good sign for snow lovers 🙂
OK… I keep hearing about the winter of 93 – 94. I missed the 90s; I was out of the country for the decade. What was it like? Anything like 77- 78? I was here then.
