Good Wednesday, everyone. Another frigid day is ongoing across the bluegrass state, but much milder days are just around the corner. This mild pattern will be ahead of a strong storm system that will deliver another arctic blast by early next week. Moral of the story… keep the Dramamine handy.
Highs today will reach the upper 30s and low 40s under mostly sunny skies. Thursday will start very cold and end milder with upper 40s and low 50s throughout the state.
50s will move in for Friday and Saturday as a shot of showers races through here. This will set the stage for even milder temps in the 60s by Sunday and Monday. That will be ahead of a big storm system across the plains. This bad boy will make a run at the Great Lakes by Monday night and will drag another arctic front through here. Check out the dramatic change in temps…
The air coming in by Tuesday and Wednesday may be as cold or colder than what we have now. It may also produce some snow during this time.
I’ve been mentioning the blocking starting to really show up as we roll through the rest of the month. This may lead to cold and snow chances for Thanksgiving week. Check out the big dip in the jet stream from the GFS Ensembles for turkey week…
Have a great day and take care.
I love this weather!!! Bring on the snow!.
I have a question whcih will probably show just how little I know about weather: when Chris shows the maps which indicates artic air spilling into parts of the country; the cold is respresented by the color purple and maroon. These maps also show reds and oranges very far north. Is that heat or very warm temps, or does that indicate something else? Thank you.
I think its a departure from normal temps
The reds and oranges just mean above normal temps for the day and you are correct able the purples being below normal. I do however continue to wish CB would show and actual temperature map along side that map so we could see the temperature range. Could you please do this Chris? Thanks for all you do. Your the best.
I have NO clue if we will see much snow or not, but me thinks we probably will get smacked with a lot more cold air than last year.
well you know the rule cold = no moisture
Thanks Chris. It sure got cold last night. And it sure is cold outside now. But it looks like we may be in for a slight reprieve before the next one gets here. Going to take each day as it comes and enjoy them all, cold, mild, warm or whatever.
Hope everyone has a great Wednesday!
18 degrees in the back yard this morning in east Frankfort, a little snow still around in the shady spots, this winter might get very interesting!
Well, we have another Mark here on KWC! Hey Mark, I’m Mark 😉 .
Anyway, as a reminder that our area is currently in a secondary tornado season, it will soon be exactly eight years since this outbreak:
http://www.crh.noaa.gov/pah/?n=nov1505f4
It included a fatal F3 twister in Marshall County KY and even an F4 at Madisonville KY. Thus we can’t let our guard down too much.
Indeed, the Storm Prediction Center is now indicating a chance of severe t-storms for western parts of both TN and KY this Sunday. It’s early of course, so the models will need to get a better grasp on the chances as we get closer to Sunday.
BTW, Nashville dropped down to 24 last night. Brrrrr
(Mark in Tennessee)
How will we know which Mark is which?
I (Mark in Tennessee) may end up modifying my KWC handle a bit. I’ve thought about doing that anyway; IIRC, there was a Mark besides me that posted at least once here at KWC about a year ago.
IIRC?
If I Recall Correctly.
I once exchanged emails with a canine trainer. I was thrown for a loop when she said she and her husband often train GSDs. Had to Google the letters to understand she meant German Shepperd Dog!
Gee,talk about Canada getting cold according to the canadian model…

Yup and that frigid air might unleash its a wrath in the US later this month into December
still have snow on the ground in the shaded areas this eve from yesterday morn, temp was 18 deg this morn!
Sunday is starting to look like a day of concern for organized severe weather. Granted its 5 days out but the Euro is preaching a outbreak with all ingredients coming together very impressive to be quiet honest. Especially if there is a lull in the precip and temps get into the lower 70’s.
