Good Sunday. We have a potentially serious weather day taking shape across the bluegrass state and surrounding areas. A significant severe weather event is likely to unfold across our region this afternoon and evening.

Here’s a breakdown of how the day may play out…

– Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop early today and some of those may be strong or severe… especially across the west and north.

– Even without thunderstorms, winds today may cause some issues. Gusts of 40mph or more will be possible.

– A break in the storms may come during the afternoon hours as we focus our attention on the cold front barreling in from the west.

– A line of severe thunderstorms is likely to be along and ahead of this front as it races eastward. The prime time for severe weather from this line will be from 4pm to midnight, depending on which part of the state you’re in.

– Damaging winds will be the main threat from these storms.

-There is enough shear in the atmosphere to produce a few tornadoes. The highest chance at seeing tornadoes will be across western and northern sections of the state.
