Good Monday evening everyone. I have been harping on the fall pattern being one of big cutoff lows and powerful storms. The biggest and baddest of the bunch is lurking for the next few days and this means some wild weather around here.

We have a major dip in the jet stream surging into the plains states with a tropical system down in the eastern Gulf of Mexico. These two are going to get together to form a powerhouse of a storm. Watch what the European Model does with this…

What does that mean for Kentucky?

– Showers and some thunderstorms increase from west to east Tuesday. Temps will range from the upper 40s and low 50s in the west to the mid and upper 70s in the southeast.

– Heavy Rain develops later Tuesday night into Wednesday and continues into Thursday. Much of central and eastern Kentucky could pick up 1″-2″.

– Winds are going to REALLY crank up! Gusts of 30-40mph will be possible.

– Temps will crash with highs in the 40s for Wednesday into Thursday.

– There is an outside shot of some sleet or a snowflake mixing in with the rain Wednesday night and Thursday. The higher elevations of southeastern Kentucky should can get in on a switch to wet snow at some point.

– Clearing skies from Friday into the weekend should allow for overnight lows to head into the upper 20s and low 30s.

Yep… this qualifies as a winter pattern in October in my book. I will have a full update coming tonight so check back.

Have a great evening and take care.
