Good evening everyone. The little light snow and flurry maker is working across the state right now and has put down a coating of snow in several spots. The same is likely this evening with a local half inch amount a possibility across the north and east.
Flakes tracker…
The clipper system moving in here on Saturday is pretty well behaved right now and I like the line of thought I have on it. This is setting up as a general 1″-3″ snowfall for a lot of people from Saturday into Sunday morning.
Here is the FIRST CALL FOR SNOWFALL…
I will be updating that map over the next day or so as the EXACT track of this clipper comes into focus. I will say the overperformance of the clipper today could be signalling the Saturday system may have a little more juice with it. That is something I will be watching for.
The frozen tundra and snow squall barrage will kick in by late Sunday into the middle of next week. Overall… this is will be one of the coldest, and maybe snowiest, starts to December in a long time!
I will update as needed and will throw some thoughts out via Twitter through the evening. Take care.

Thanks Chris! Hear that train? 🙂
I don’t like the snowfall map.:( I live in Madison County and we have a coating to an inch. I want the big daddy snow.
I’ll take it. Should have outdoor lights finished tonight–the place will be very photogenic by Sunday.
CHar…I hear the train a comin’…and snowlover the BIG DADDY is the locomotive!!!…LOL..
Anyone know how long the snow is supposed to last this evening for eastern and southeastern ky?
thanks
We just had moderate snow in Lawrenceburg. It covered many surfaces rapidly. Looks like WKYT has a reporter standing in it right now! She’s covered!
WOW yeah, I just saw that as well, live shot out of Georgetown, heavy snowfalling an accumulating a bit!!…
NWS says RAIN and 47* down here on Saturday…:(
Man, I want some of that heavy snow down here in Clay. All I’ve seen is flurries.
Man, it started snowing here in Morehead about an hour ago and it’s already coated everything..not huge flakes but more like a steady “rain of snow” ..NICE 🙂 looking forward to see what happens next.
i noticed on accuweather.com the forecast for london ky on december 13 monday. it says snow and expected snowfall 14 inches for the day. you all go and look on the extended forecast. I was wondering what is up with that and are they something you all are seeing on the models that are showing a big storm
Henry on Accuweather has been hyping on a snowstorm around here on the 13th for some time now. The models are catching onto something thats for sure.
well i hope so, but isnt that going out on a limb and predicting that much snow from that far away.
So all the foreign models are still keeping us at about -4 degrees C at the 850mb level when this stuff moves in. The NAM and GFS are a tad warmer. So it continues to be a close call… but I’m thinking 2″ accums. will be hard to come by in the LEX area. Right on the fence again…
Numerous accidents being reported in Scott County due to icy roads, some with injuries. Be careful out there.
I’m thinking around 1-3″ in this area.
well looks like north east ky. is gonna be the sweet spot for the next several days…
Did Henry at Accuweather just say “troughyness”?
Any Bath Countians out there with measureable snow?
Same old Same old
We we had some light snow today in LOU,KY. with no accumulation yet. I’m still holding to my predictions from yesterday. Dusting north of I-64 here in LOU. **(I have my heat on high and my windows open to keep my forecast correct)!!**
I see some folks are talking about the 13th of December. All you guys are invited to join the fun.
Below is my post on the 1st…
I wanted to stick my neck out 12 days and make a bet with the whole blog. Yes, including you Chris. I think this system is going to bring us the biggest first snow of the season. Since this blog is spread over a wide area, I thought this would be fun. On the December 13th, the person with the highest snow total wins bragging rights to the “highest 1st big snow challenge award”. Anyone up for this big December 13th showdown of the snowfall?
GFSx is showing this “Snow Train” heading to Louisville
looks like our potent little weekend system is gonna throw down 7-10″ of snow around Minneapolis MN.
How much snow for our back yard in Southern KY????? LOL 🙁 I already know the answer.
LOL!
Actually that has changed to a rain event. Now places like accu weather, that was forecasting a big snow, is now giving no snow and rain.
