Good Thanksgiving evening everyone. Our strong cold front is now plowing eastward across the state and is causing some wicked weather. Showers and thunderstorms are racing eastward ahead of the front and some of these are on the strong side with very gusty winds.
Track the rain and storms here…
Notice the blue and pink showing up on the back edge of the rain shield? That is the cold air catching up to it and changing the rain over to a period of snow and sleet. This transition zone will race eastward this evening and overnight meaning everyone gets in on a period of wintry weather at some point into Friday morning. Elevated surfaces may have a coating of sleet and snow as this batch works through later tonight.
The temp drop is nothing short of awesome to watch and you can see it here…

I will be putting out rapid updates through Twitter so sign up to follow me… @Kentuckyweather . You can also see these updates in the top right corner of this blog.
I will have the usual full update later tonight and touch on some potential for next week. Happy Thanksgiving and take care.

National Weather service has just put out a special statement for eastern Kentucky. Saying a inch of snow is possible. So maybe there is a chance for an accumulation.
