Good Thursday and Happy Thanksgiving to one and all. I want to start out by saying thanks for making our blog such a wonderful weather community for this state. I appreciate each of you and will continue to bust my backside to give you guys the best weather information as I can. P
The actual weather today into Friday is taking a walk on the wide side. This overall pattern is one we first gave you a heads up about a few weeks back. Now that it’s here… it is certainly living up to the wild part and is the beginning phase of an early start to winter.
Let’s break down how things will progress over the next few days…
– Today is going to be windy and warm as temps spike way up. Highs will be in the 60s for most areas with 70s a good possibility for many across the south and east especially.
– The best chance for rain today will be across the west and far north.
– A strong cold front will surge in from the west this evening and will cause a wicked temp drop. Readings will drop some 30 degrees in just a few hours as the front moves through. By morning… most areas are in the mid and upper 20s. Wow!
– A wall of rain and some thunder will work eastward across the state later this evening into Tonight. The cold air will catch the rain and switch it over to a period of snow and sleet. Can it come down at a fast enough clip to give a slushy accumulation? That is possible… and I highly suspect if it does… only elevated surfaces would show a coating. The GFS continues to show this possibility…
Whatever sleet and snow does fall tonight into early Friday will be a hit and run deal with any one area only having a 2-4 hour window to see some wintry action. With the rapid drop in temps… wet roads may freeze up in a few spots Friday morning. Holiday shoppers should watch for a few slick spots.
Partly sunny skies will be noted for Friday afternoon as temps remain in the low to mid 30s for highs. Brisk winds will make it feel even colder.
Here is what you need to track the big change into town…
Current Temps
Looking ahead to next week… buckle up for more action coming from later Monday through Wednesday with another rain event early that goes over to snow. Unlike the current setup… this may have a secondary low pressure developing just to our east and southeast to throw additional moisture back into the cold air surging in here. Stay tuned.
I will have an update on the big changes blowing through later this evening so check back. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and take care.

the GFS is underdoing WAA tommorow. NAM and ECMWF prefered making accumlations quite a bit less than shown 1/2 inch tops. Helicity and shear values are high as well, could get a strong or severe storm as well.
Happy thanksgiving to Chris and all the bloggers. Chris or anyone else, I was wanting to buy some meteorological type books that are used in college classes just for reading purposes. Do you have any suggestions on which text would be good?
Happy thanksgiving to Chris and all the bloggers! I was interested in buying some college text used in meteorological classes. Chris or anyone else, do you have any suggestions on which ones would be good for a beginner and current as well?
LOL Mitch……..When I first read that, I first glance, I thought you said Hell city values……then I re-read what you said…
We need something besides all these GLC’s to give us any hope at some snow; this system may put a few flakes in the air but that is about all I would expect to see
Morning to all and Happy Thanksgiving! Chris it sure sounds like the weather is not going to be a turkey! Right now, it is 60 degrees here. the sun is coming up and we have partly cloudy skies. It will be intresting to see how it all plays outlater today.
Is there a possibility of anything severe with the clash of the air masses? Just wondering, in case I need to go out and moreheavily anchor my outside decorations. Have a GREAT Thanksgiving day, all…don’t eat too much! 😉
Does the rain that showing up in the Louisville area and Western Ky right now mean the front is a little ahead of schedule?
Happy Thanksgiving Chris and bloggers.Thats one heck of a temp. difference on the nation wide map there. Hope to at least see a little white stuff falling tomorrow morning.
I don’t know… yesterday the models were too fast with the WAA. Hence why we stayed in the 30s here all day. GFS might be on track now.
Happy Thanksgiving Chris and everyone!!!
Enjoy and stay safe if you’re traveling.
I’m looking forward to snow flakes falling tomorrow morning. Woo-hoo!

I thought so too but it looks like its training a bit so perhaps not. Guess we’ll just have to wait it out?
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. We all have a lot to be thankful for. Here’s hoping the weather doesn’t bring down your spirit and that you enjoy time with your families today. Thanks to Chris as well for a fun read.
Man, talk about training, this precip has been moving SW/NE for the last 24 hrs. Indiana and Ohio have been the lovefest for this system…doesn’t want to move east with an commitment. Must be the infamous central ky “dry air”
Happy Thanksgiving to all the blog!
No, the dewpoints are near 60.
Water standing all over the place here in French Lick and it’s still pouring!!!
What a beautiful day here in Southeast Ky. Partly sunny, 74, Any record highs reached today?
yeah i know the forecasters at nws and chris are working today for the most part, I’m the forecaster for the warren county STN today as well (remotely). Mother nature doesn’t take off. At least I’m at home enjoying the holiday. Happy thanksgiving folks.
It’s been a beautiful day here in the moutains of Tn! Sunny, in the 70’s and filled to the brim of Turkey and all the trimmings. Looks like from the radar it’s about to come to a drastic halt though. At least I’m missing all the snow and sleet action back home in KY!
