Good Tuesday everyone. We have finally arrived at a day many of us have been wanting to see for a few months now… a day of soaking rains!  This is a potent storm that is moving across the state today and will bring a widespread rain event to go along with some gusty winds and a big temp swing.

Here are some headlines with this storm…

– Rain will be heavy at times today into this evening. Amounts will range from a half inch to as much as 2 inches for areas that get in on the heaviest rain.

– I do expect to see a narrow area of lower totals setting up somewhere across the central part of the state. This will be bracketed by higher amounts on either side. Even in this area of “lower” totals… this will be a nice soaker!

– There is the threat for some low topped thunderstorms across the eastern half of the state late this afternoon and evening.

– As the low cranks up over us and rolls to our northeast… winds will ramp up as well. Gusts to 30 or 40mph cannot be ruled out later today into the evening.

– Temps will spike up to near 60 in the far east while the west stays in the 40s for most of the day. As the low goes by to our north… temps will really drop off quickly.

– There is the SMALLEST chance of a wet snowflake mixing in on the back edge of the departing rain shield. This is especially the case across western Kentucky.

I have all the tools you need to track today’s wild and wet weather…

Ok… since getting such a widespread rain event… let’s treat it like a snowstorm and give me some reports from your hometown.

I will update as needed… take care.
