Good Saturday and welcome to the weekend. Right on cue.. we started things off on a rather wintry note across much of the region with a lot of folks seeing the first flakes of the season. A few more snow showers and flurries will be flying around today as the cold air hangs tough. It won’t stay that way for long as a true taste of Indian Summer weather moves in for next week.
As mentioned… many areas picked up some of the white stuff Friday and some more will fall early today. Check out these pics from the Friday flakes…
Prestonsburg
The mountains of nearby West Virginia picked up some good snows. Check out this shot from near Beckley…
A few more snow showers and flurries will be noted early today across parts of central and eastern Kentucky and you can track them here…
Anyone is fair game for a quick coating of snow to start out the day… especially across the higher elevations. Highs today will range from the upper 30s and low 40s east to mid and upper 40s west. Winds will continue to be gusty at times as the flakes and clouds decrease later today.
Sunday will start cold with temps in the 20s… winds will switch around to the west as some milder air heads our way. Highs will be near 50 east to low 60s west.
The mild air surges in here for most of next week. Highs in the 60s will be common and a few days in the 70s are very possible as well. The warmer temps should hold through the end of the week as a storm rides from the lower plains into the western great lakes by late Friday into Saturday. This will drag a cold front through here with showers and thunderstorms. This front will bring in some much colder air for next weekend and set us up for a fairly drastic pattern change for much of the country.
Check out the GFS Ensemble average for temp anomalies for a couple of selected days for the next few weeks…
Again… that is only an average, but it shows the change we will see after the warmth of the coming week. The pattern I see trying to set up for the end of November is a wintry one that can make for some interesting times for much of the country.
That is all you kids get right now… let me know if you got to see your first flakes of the season. Have a great Saturday and take care.
Got a pretty good snowburst in Gtown around 10 last night. Significant snow and sleet was common along I75 near Walton while we were shopping/eating Friday night.
Goodness, all that orange and red into Canada and beyond this time of year??? Not good for snowpack assisting our potential winter down here. Let’s get on with winter already.
we got our first dusting here in the Barbourville area of Knox co…. and getting a light snow shower right now..
check out those low temps. out in western ky… 18* in henderson ky. and a 20 showing up around paducah…brrrr!!
patiently waiting
25 on my hill in Lawrenceburg this morning. I’m actually glad it went so low…my sinuses honestly feel a LOT better already. That 40-50 degree weather had me all jacked up. I truly believe the sub-freezing weather “cleans” up the air and promotes health.
Got a pretty good fluffy dusting here in Winchester. Todds Rd on the Clark Co end was really white and pretty this morning.
Same on the west side of town…very nice 🙂
Big giant snow flakes falling right now.
Wheeee!
I like snow because of the sheer beauty it brings…the quiet peacefulness that settles in while it snows…and I used to love to play in it.
First little skiff of snow here at East Point this morning…already gone (that was a great Eagles’ song).
However, for some strange reason, even snow is not helping me feel better.
I agree Wxman I can tell a big difference!
i see snow flurries very small ones
Here’s some photos from today taken on Pine Mountain in Letcher County.

Awesome pic.
I agree! Beautiful!
Does anyone know if Chris has posted a winter forecast yet and if so, where can I find it?
His winter forecast comes out either on or around Thanksgiving. So far he’s just made some broader monthly precip. and temperature to average forecasts.
