Good Friday everyone and welcome to the end of the week and the start of our annual snowflake chase. It is the time of year when snow lovers start to get that little tingle deep inside at the mere mention of snow. What is it that causes us to love this frozen form of water? Is it the inner child within? How about the peacefulness of a new fallen snow? Whatever it may be… I want to hear from you. Leave us a comment on why you love snow so much.
Some lucky people will be seeing their first flakes of the new season at some point over the next few days thus leading to an outbreak of dances similar to this…
If you are one of the people seeing some snowflakes and feel like bustin’ a move… make sure to get a pic or video of it and the blog will make you famous.
The actual weather forecast goes a little something like this…
– A northwesterly wind flow will have a scattering of rain and snow showers across the region today. This stuff will be fairly scattered with a few rays of sun in between. You can track the action here…
– Some of you looking for the first flakes will likely be left out on the cold… literally… as that will be all you get. Don’t frown… it’s only the first week of November.
– Today will be a blustery one with gusty winds from the northwest. Highs will range from the upper 30s and low 40s east to mid 40s west. Factor in the wind and it will never feel as warm as the thermometer shows.
Current Temps
Wind Chill Temps
– Temps will take a quick tumble into the low and mid 30s this evening and will end up down in the middle 20s by Saturday morning.
– It is tonight and early Saturday that any precip that falls would be in the form of snow showers and flurries. It is also the same time when a few areas can pick up on a rooftop dusting…
– Highs Saturday will be very similar to today and may even be a degree or two colder in the east. Lows Saturday night will bottom out in the low to mid 20s.
– Sunday will see sunshine returning with highs in the upper 40s east to near 60 west.
– Next week looks to feature great fall weather with highs returning to the 60s with plenty of sunshine.
– That pattern will give way to a colder one by next weekend into the following week as the prospect of a wintry pattern for the end of November is on the increase.
There you have it… the chance to see the elusive early November snowflake. If you do and snap a pic or some video of it shoot me an e-mail and we will try to get it on the blog. Your chances are MUCH higher of getting on here if you do a little dance! Don’t forget to tell us why you love snow so much in the comments section.
To the new folks… you must be on www.kyweathercenter.com to leave a comment. It’s apparently how the internet Gods want it.
I will update as needed. Have a great Friday and take care.
I like how you can see the dome on the map provided above for the chance of a dusting.
Lol.
I will dust off my husband and see if he feels like dancing, but I seriously doubt it lol,if i see snow I will dance with myself or Duke my cat,hey I know me and Rollo can bust a move who wants to see that????????? This blog should be called tommorow dancing with the snow stars Chris Bailey style keep singing this song YOU MAKE ME FEEL LIKE DANCING I WANT DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY!!!!
I like how it always got me excited about potentially getting out of school. Now that I’m an adult, it still gets me excited because it always did! I don’t think it will ever go away!!
Now Chris, I think it would be just awesome to have a nice little winter storm to track in the days leading up to Thanksgiving and have a nice little accumulation on the ground by the time everyone is sitting down for some turkey. This needs to come a couple days before the actual travel rush starts and then stay cold so it stays there. Ok? K, thanks. 😉
What would be IDEAL for me now? Cool temps and LOTS of rain……….Save the brutal cold and snow for Jan/Feb…….Not Nov/Dec………If we have a cold Nov/Dec………I suspect (knowing our luck)……that we will thaw out during the height of winter……..I’m don’t know why I’m so pessimistic 🙁
I think looking at snow brings back memories of a wonderful childhood. I remember how cozy our home was during the winter. I also remember my siblings and I playing outside in the snow and how much fun we had!
Yes, that was very nice of Chris to take that into account so we don’t get our hopes up for nothing.
Big snowflakes mixed with the rain this morning in Clay County!
Heavy snow shower in Leslie County! Deck is turning white…Large snow flakes falling heavily!
yipee!!
It is the inner child in me. I just love hearing “There will be no school in Jackson County”. Then in June I am upset cause we are still in school though. Wish we could have it both ways! LOL I also like the new, fresh look and the peace that goes with a nice snow.
I just love the way it changes everything around you, and the quietness and brightness of a snowy night…
snow on the ground in the corbin area!!! a light dusting…
Just went across Pine Mt. in Harlan County and the grass and the side of the road has a good covering of snow. It was still snowing hard also.
reeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllly ??
I got a call from a friend who lives on 25 down by the race track, said it snowed big flakes between 6-7am. and that they had a coating on everything, trees, grass, porch, cartops…
I love snow, the peacefullness about it, but to be honest, since internet/blogs/news all the time, snow predictions and KY misses of snow, it takes the peacefulness out of it!
Chris, I am hoping ot be on eo f the lucky ones…but probably won’t be.
Still, it feels like winter out there for sure, and certainly looks as if it could snow.
You asked for reasons why we love snow. Well, Hopefully your moderator will let posts go through…
I love snow because it reminds me of something new…a new beginning, something fresh, and awesomely beautiful. It does bring back memories of my childhood, when we seemed to get a lot of snow (at least we missed a lot of school for it!)
Snow kind of makes me think that God has wiped a canvas clean and left it for us to draw our own picture on, and then He sits back to watch and see what we paint. We get it so seldomly here now that I think that’s why we get so doggone excited about it. At least, I know that is why I do.
So, there you have it, Chris. Hope this makes it without going to moderation land….have a gREAt day, all, and be sure to let us all know if you do see snowflakes!
I have always liked snow, but I love it now that I live in an apartment and no longer own a snow shovel!
SNOW in McCreary!!!!! The biggest snow flakes coming down…sticking on car tops only, but it is a beautiful sight….thanks Chris!!!!
I love snow, because it makes the earth look new and clean. And it brings back so many memories from my childhood.
Coffeelady, I agree! 🙂
One of my friends from Central Ohio worded how I want to answer this perfectly last year in a note she called *Falling Snow*:
“First of all, perhaps I should explain why I like snow. Seriously, its beautiful. Yes, it is cold and wet but look outside (especially if you live in Central Ohio right now). Despite how much the wind is whipping it around it is just peaceful. A heavy blanket of snow brings quiet as it covers everything. It is as if God is wrapping us in a fluffy white blanket, surrounding us.
And that is why I love snow so much. Its just peaceful. And this is my gift this winter. This is my assurance. In a season of life where peaceful just isn’t a word I would use, God has showered me with His snow. Blanketed me in His love. And right now, if there is a moment of doubt, all I have to do is look outside and it quickly reminds me that we are covered by Him. Completely covered. Snow makes everything white and pure – even the ugliest patch of dirt looks beautiful. And this is what God’s love does for us. It blankets us white and makes us beautiful again. I’m sure that patch of dirt doesn’t feel beautiful but we look outside and see it as such. I might not feel beautiful in this season but oh do I feel His love for me and that covers it all.
Yes, the snow melts away but when it does it ushers in a brilliant season of growth and color. New life springs forth and then the earth is blanketed yet again, only this time in God’s new growth. And so while I wait for the new, I will feel secure and loved in this snow as He washes me white and purifies me.” ~JT
Trying again, as the first time it was sent to moderation… and those usually don’t show up for me.

I love the sound and smell of snow falling. And how pretty the countryside looks blanketed in snow.
I love snow because it leads up to the most wonderful time of the year.It also reminds me when I had my parents and oh what wonderful memories, but now I know I have the most beautiful Angel in Heaven helping to spinkle that snow down to me.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkGyLz1aN90&feature=related

Chris, we have little ice balls falling from the sky, and I mean, it is pouring them down! Temp says it is too warm for snow, but something icy is falling here for sure. Just thought I would let you know…hail, or sleet? I am going to call it sleet…. 🙂
LOL, Coffee Lady the sun is shining here on the northeast side of Somerset. It’s amazing how different the weather can be in just a few miles.
Nothing but cold gloomy skies in Carter County. Maybe we will get the flakes before the day is done. Good day for a fire in the fire place.
In other news, the latest GFS run is looking warmer next week, and it’s taking on the shape of another severe weather outbreak on Thursday. Interesting…
My mother loved snow. She would get me up no matter what time it was if it was snowing when I was young. She always complained there wasn’t a big snow during the holidays. She died 11 years ago this month. Two days after she died it SNOWED huge! I swore my mother took over the snow patrol in heaven. Snow just makes me feel like and a little piece of her is still with me.
What a beautiful memory. 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
i love snow because i love how perfect storms can be when all the right indgrdients come together just right for a slammin of a hammerin 😀 quite a few of those here in the tri-state last winter!!! seriously snow is just cool
B-)
The thoughts of snow on the ground, Big flakes fallin’, the cracklin’ & smell of the wood on the fire, (gas logs what I have now), a huge bowl of snow cream. The memories of sleighing down the roads when they were gravel, cause you didn’t have to worry bout traffic, those roads didn’t get plowed any. The sun melted that snow away, took months sometimes. School let out for Christmas break, we wouldn’t goin’ back til March. The snow, I’ve always loved the snow. Just to get out & ride around looking at it on the trees. Seeing if anyone has done much traveling on the roads. Love it…. 🙂
IT’S SNOWING OUTSIDE IN LEXINGTON!!! 0′ THE WEATHER OUTSIDE IS FRIEGHTFUL INSIDE THE FIRE’S DELIGHTFUL WE HAVE NO PLACE ELSE TO GO LET IT SNOW, LET SNOW, LET SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
