4:45pm Update
The line of damaging wind producing thunderstorms is racing across eastern Kentucky right now. Winds near 60mph will be possible along this line. A few storms continue to get out on their own and I still cannot rule out a brief tornado touchdown across southeastern Kentucky.
1:45pm Update
A new TORNADO WATCH is now out for eastern Kentucky until 9pm. Here is a look at the watch and the current warnings…
The storms are starting to take on a more cellular look meaning we may seen an increased tornado threat.
11:30am Update
This is a VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION! This line of storms is causing significant wind damage and spawning tornadoes as it rolls into central and eastern Kentucky. ALL areas will be impacted by this line so please take all necessary precautions NOW.
Keep posting your weather and refer to my twitter feed for the latest warnings.
Take care.
9am Update
Good Morning everyone… a TORNADO WATCH is now out for much of central and eastern Kentucky until 4pm. This as the SPC has now upgraded the severe thunderstorm risk into the MODERATE and HIGH RISK categories. Here is a look at the watch outline and the latest warnings…
THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION! Widespread wind damage is likely across the entire state as this line moves through. Wind gusts to 70mph or higher will be possible. In addition to the damaging winds… some of these storms will also produce tornadoes and the atmosphere suggests some can be strong.
New watches will be issued for the rest of the state as this line rolls eastward later today. Keep checking back and posting your weather and thoughts.
Take care.
8am Update
Good morning gang. much of western Kentucky is already under a TORNADO WATCH until 1pm today. Here is a look at the watch and the latest warnings…
Expect a new TORNADO WATCH to be issued shorty for much of central Kentucky. Keep checking back for updates and posting the weather where you are. BTW… anyone notice the red sky at morning? Take care.
Previous Update
Good Tuesday everyone. Today is shaping up to be a wild weather day across Kentucky as a powerful cold front moves through the region. Gusty winds and severe storms will be the highlights of the day and will keep the Center busy. We will use this blog for all your tracking needs as we will set you up with the maps you will be needing today.
Let’s break down the situation…
– A WIND ADVISORY is out for the entire state today as gusts ahead of the front and squall line can easily top 40mph.
– The line of thunderstorms will come rolling in west to east late this morning into early afternoon across western Kentucky… early to mid afternoon for central Kentucky and into eastern parts of the state during the late afternoon and early evening hours.
– Damaging winds will be likely as this line moves through. Gusts to 60mph or higher will be possible.
– There is a threat for a few tornadoes to form… especially in cells that get out on their own.
Here is everything you need to track the storms…

I will update the blog as needed today and may even go with a live chat if need be. Keep in mind I will also be doing my TV duties at the same time so multi tasking will be the name of the weather game for me. I will have rapid fire updates through twitter so sign up to follow me @Kentuckyweather . You can even get these latest updates sent straight to your cell phone. These updates also show up in the top right hand corner of this blog.
Also… help us out by posting the weather where you are. To the newbies… this same blog as two addresses and only one allows you to post comments… www.kyweathercenter.com .
Have a great Tuesday and take care.
Could be a historic weather day. Just the feel of the atmosphere outside tells you something is coming. I have a unfortunate feeling that there will be wide-spread wind damage. We could sure use the rain but it will come in the form of a hefty price. Everyone stay safe out there today and keep an eye on the sky.
J.R., I’m concerned about the damage the wind will cause also.
Thanks for keeping us informed Chris. My eyes will be on the sky and this blog thoughout the day.
If you all remember back in 2008, there was a squal line in January before the super outbreak and this line reminds me of it. I’m going with my gut and thinking we’ll be included in this high risk. :/
Do you think eastern KY will mostly escape any damaging storms? We’re only under a slight risk at the moment, but I always like the expertise of local people better. Haha.
Chris is where I put my trust when it comes to the weather and warnings. He stays right on top of the situations as they come up.
SPC says this:
ARCING BAND OF STRONG/SEVERE STORMS CONTINUES MOVING RAPIDLY

VICINITY…ALONG THE SURFACE COLD FRONT ASSOCIATED WITH A VERY
STRONG UPPER SYSTEM CENTERED OVER MN/IA/MO ATTM. A MOIST

THE ENTIRE TROPOSPHERE IS AIDING IN STORM ORGANIZATION/INTENSITY.

THUS MAIN SEVERE THREAT REMAINS DAMAGING WINDS. HOWEVER…WITH

THIS WILL REQUIRE NEW WATCH ISSUANCE WITHIN THE NEXT 1-2 HOURS.
Everything has come into place. Haven’t seen a High Risk in the Louisville area for a LONG time. Got my video camera ready. Time to lock and load boys… it’s going to be a wild day. Finally.
I am a storm lover but lack the expertise to be able to predict anything so thats where you all come in….will East Ky have the possibility for tornadoes this afternoon or does it weaken out before it gets to us?
Agreed.
I have followed Chris for a long time. He has the passion that it takes to be good at what you do.
very windy, and what a RED SKY this morning…so red it was glowing through the windows of the house this morning…
((( RED SKY IN THE MORNING HEED THE WARNING )))
Any chance of this line dying at the Ohio River as usual and refiring 20 miles south and east of the Bluegrass since it’s morning?
SPC just updated the outlook for severe weather and shifted the high-risk and moderate-risk areas east!!!
WoW!! I haven’t seen the High Risk in the Lexington area for a LONG time. It’s really shaping up great. Did you see the report of a grain bin blown across the road and hit a car in western KY? That’s some wind!!
This is one amazing storm, could be one of the lowest pressures ever recorded over the US. It’s already down to 968.2 MB, or roughly the same pressure as a strong category 2 almost cat 3 hurricane. If you are in the state of KY today you will have the best shot of seeing widespread severe weather we’ve seen all year.
For those worried about tornadoes, keep an eye on any cells that pop up in front of the main line… that’s where the best chance to tornadoes will be.
However don’t underestimate the straight line wind damage potential with this system. Best chance for widespread wind damage the state has seen since the left overs of Hurricane Ike rolled through.
For those of you who remember, it feels like April 3, 1974 outside. Very, very similar morning. I hope that is where the similarities end.
Tornado reported not far from Murray State University…
Chris, do you think that the storms will weaken any today?
I pray it will not be like that April. I lived close to Xenia Ohio then, and people died and others lost everything. I never want to go thru that again. I pray it will not be.
No.
Does anyone think we’re looking at stronger tornadoes or smaller ones embedded within the squall line and strong straight line winds unless we manage to develop discrete cells in advance of the line?
It looks like most of us are going to be in for a rough one today, then.
That line looks really nasty on radar. What time, do you think, would the storms be in/near the Morehead area?
well this turning out to be one of the most active days the blog has seen in many weeks!!! if not months!!!…everyone stay safe and take care…be sure to KEEP AN EYE ON THAT SQUALL LINE MOVING THROUGH!!! esp. when it reaches YOUR BACK YARD!!..
That day will forever be embedded in my memory…I agree it feels very similar out there today. I do not want to relive that day/night ever again!
I’m with you on that. It’s downright spooky out there, though.
Chris – any kind of estimate on timing for Louisville, Lexington, etc? Thanks!
Tim, I noticed the sky this morning, too. The sky was so red it looked almost pink. Very strange looking, indeed!
Hey jennifer, storms are moving to the east at about 60mph, would say Louisville would be impacted around 11am with Lexington around 12:30-1pm
* AT 913 AM CDT…TRAINED WEATHER SPOTTERS REPORTED A RAPIDLY
ROTATING WALL CLOUD 4 MILES SOUTH OF NORTONVILLE…MOVING EAST AT 55
MPH.
I have my kite ready!
Chris is the only one that will post information specific to Eastern KY. Nobody else gives a rat’s behind about Eastern KY.
Thanks Ryan. Appreciate the estimate.
Where in the heck is Nortonville?
About 10 miles south of Madisonville–25 miles north of Hopkinsville
LMK is pulling the trigger on tornado warnings like crazy. Today is one of those days where it’s like “don’t worry about verification…just hit that button and we’ll deal with it later!”
I’m figuring 13:00 for LEX to get hit.
* AT 932 AM CDT…THE PUBLIC REPORTED A TORNADO 4 MILES NORTHEAST OF
HOPKINSVILLE…MOVING EAST AT 60 MPH. DAMAGE HAS BEEN REPORTED WEST
OF HOPKINSVILLE.
Better safe than sorry in this kind of situation.
Chris Allen from WBKO in Bowling Green just posted this on Twitter:
“REPORTS OF ROOFS BEING BLOWN OFF HOUSES – CONFIRMED SIGHTING OF A TORNADO JUST NORTHEAST OF HOPKINSVILLE NEAR PLEASANT GREEN HILL”
Folks east of I-65 be ready to take action this afternoon. These storms are extremely powerful.
For anyone interested.
http://www.radioreference.com/apps/audio/?action=wp&feedId=3404
Appreciate you all breathing a prayer for my daughter. She is in the air flying to Chicago and then connecting for a flight to Lexington today. Rough weather everywhere. Her name is Rebekah. Thanks very much.
no’easter – prayers said for Rebekah and all the folks in the path of this storm. May God watch over all those being impacted.
Yes… this line is strengthening, as expected. Central KY is about to get POPPED really bad. I hope people pay attention to warnings today.
Got that right! I live in Perry County, and this is where I get my weather.
Something we need to keep in mind are the kids in the schools. This could be an extremely dangerous situation for schools in Central KY.
A bad day for yard signs. Maybe a good thing.
Looks like your call for a 1 PM hit for Lex is in good shape. Storms moving into Louisville right now, and they’re moving at interstate speeds!
Tornado warning Louisville. Tornado spotted in St. Matthews.
Under a tornado warning in Louisville at the moment with the squall about to come through, storms reported to be moving at 80mph to the NE. Can’t say I’ve heard a squall line move that fast before.
do any of you weather followers know the ceiling on these storms headed our way?
AND those campaign signs will blow away too!
Confirmed tornado touchdown in Jefferson County as reported by EMS there. No further details.
From what I’m reading the severe stuff should be past Lexington by the time schools let out for the day.
Man, LMK is firing off at the tornado warnings like the super tuesday outbreak.
My point exactly. We’ve got gusts in lex right now that have to be 60 mph.
The amount of Tornado Warnings out right now is unreal. It looks like at 40 seperate counties in 7 states have an active tornado warning.
Chris do you think the spc should put our area in a particularly dangerous situation? There are so many tornado warnings its unreal. I have never seen such a setup so powerful. The winds alone outside of the storms are causing damage in our neighborhood.
Suspected rain wrapped tornado in Warren county according to ems.
Something that weather.com says is that the severe weather won’t hit Lexington until 4-6 PM? Is it supposed to last from 1 until 6 or what?
Weather .com is dumb.. It looks to me as if the squall line is breaking up any eles have input on this?
I was thinking the same thing Allyn. Looks like it is trying to weaken a little bit as it moves towards CKY
Squall line does appear to be weakening on radar, however, given the dynamics of the system (high shear, significant precipitable water, higher CAPE values to the east) I would be surprised if this is anything more than a short term trend.
The question remains how short terk will this trend last..
What do you guys think Lexington will get?
Is it just me or did the SPC move the HIGH risk farther south to include more of Kentucky
* AT 1122 AM CDT…THE PUBLIC REPORTED A TORNADO AT THE CORVETTE
PLANT IN BOWLING GREEN EARLIER. THE POTENTIAL TORNADO IS NEAR SMITHS
GROVE MOVING NORTHEAST AT 60 MPH.
talk about everythingbut the kitchen sink!!!…while we are biting our nails with severe/tornadoes/wind…almost the entire state of NORTH DAKOTA IS UNDER A BLIZZARD WARNING!!!…we went from no weather events to EXTREME!!!…WOW!!!
Storm systems often seem to weaken as they approach the actual radar locations so if the radars is coming out of central Ky it will appear to weaken due to the angle the radar beam hits the clouds at greater distance.
I really don’t think CKY and EKY will get hit as hard as Western Kentucky and the Louisville area. Seems to be losing momentum as it heads east.
Segment of the line already seems to be bowing out south of Bloomfield. Intensity will probably fluctuate in this line and I really couldn’t tell you how long this will last. I am surprised to see no discrete cells popping up ahead of this line.
Wolfe County is dismissing school at 2pm due to severe weather. I am so glad they are taking this seriously!!
Just wanted to report that North Eastern Jefferson County where I live received 50 mph top gust. @ 11:55 am
I wonder if the infamous Lexdome works on tornadoes too? 😉
Schools in Jessamine county had tornado drills today……guess they wanted to be sure students knew what to do. Glad they did it.
Wondering if some parts of the state who have had warm temperatures longer today will be even more unstable than those that are being hit earlier in the day.
All of this sunshine in Madison county can’t be good
in SE Lex….animals are getting restless.
My backyard weather station in Lexington is showing a 26mph (2-minute average)sustained wind speed.
haha all of mine are sleeping here in Nicholasville
Wow~!!
Spooky out! After 13 weeks of nothingness, it’s finally exploding……Too bad we couldn’t just get some rain.
SOUTHERNKYDUDE
Interesting what you said about the radar appearing to weaken as it approaches the radar site! I wonder if that’s why we always think everything weakens as it gets close?
Some storms popping ahead of the main line… I’m hoping these don’t go super cellular.
Severe T’storm Warning now out for Bourbon, Fayette, Harrison, Jassamine, Mercer, Scott, and Woodford county until 1:30. This includes Lexington and Georgetown. Take this warning seriously even though it’s not a tornado warning.
Lexington Metro now under a severe thunderstorm warning.
It also seems to me that the storms appear to be weakening. I wonder if they’ll flair back up again.
Kids can’t leave the rooms in JEssamine county schools

I know rite!
It’s early afternoon and they are weakening? Not that I’m complaining but it’s an odd time of the day for that. I’ts raining in northwest Lex now……..
Will these weaken over or before the make it to EKY??? The radar seems to look less ominous but the sun is shining bright here. Any thoughts??????
rain was horizontal a few minutes ago…now eriely calm over by my house.
Rain just started here on Winchester RD US 60 At least it bring down the dust
anyone heard any reports from the Anderson/Franklin Co. line?
Does the calm before the storm ring a bell? Lexington has went from trees bending to nothing!
Freaky!!! Was outside and literlly within 2 breaths the temp dropped dramatically……..really weird!! But cool lol
Just got home and drove through the storm along US 25-it must have been a dead part of the line as I only encountered some wind and much needed rain.
Those of us in South-Central and South-Eastern Ky need to be monitoring the warnings in Northern Tn closely.
Looks like another bust for CKY regarding severe weather. Not that it’s a bad thing, but here in Southern Bourbon County it’s starting to look like a nice little afternoon
* AT 136 PM EDT…NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM CAPABLE OF PRODUCING A TORNADO. THIS DANGEROUS
STORM WAS LOCATED NEAR HIGH BRIDGE…MOVING NORTHEAST AT 65 MPH.
Other news outlets are saying this is weakening and will not be bad over Eastern parts of the state….is this correct?
Just as a tornado warning is issued for Mercer, Jessamine and Garrad county…
You’re right about the winds. After 10 minutes of rain at UK campus the wind has virtually stopped. Still raining decent but not as hard. I’m thinking storms are weakening.
Tornado sirens in Nicholasville are going off.
Jake
We cancelled a football game tonight because of this weakening line of sprinklers…shesh. If we’re gonna cancel a game, at least let the weather be worth cancelling over…
As things calm down on UK campus one nasty looking cell is coming north. That has to be the one with the possible tornados.
WOW I’M SHAKING NOW, CATCH YA’LL LATER
I am too. I have my lap top in the closet with me and the dogs. I figure I am good until the power goes out and the internet along with it or the battery dies. I do have the internet on my phone assumeing cell service isn’t taken down.
Jake
Nothing bad here in northern Jessamine, but the temperature drop was unreal. It was 80 degrees here and then within a few minutes it had dropped to 64 degrees.
Yep not a lot going on at UK Hospital
Pretty calm in Lexington now….really weird…I expected more…but we are not done yet either.
Wow glad nothing happened but that was an adrenaline rush! Not even windy here now!
Nothing here close to downtown Nicholasville either. I could barely hear the sirens and wouldn’t have had someone not called me and said they were on and I then was listening for them. The rain wasn’t even impressive. I guess the 1-2.50″ was just a tease on the radars?
Jake
lortdy, lordy, just the usual last huraYYYYYYYYY!! as we head into fall/winter.
kinda likew the wid myself, dont want nobody hurt but luv this type weather in october myself.
lol, not that bad, no tornado just wind, rotation is way,way up in atmpshere.
u ever tried tying ur cat up on leash in these conditions, its cool to see them fly around.
ole JOKER the billy goat is loving the weather too. he is out back with ENOS having fun.
Storms look to be weakening considerably. This thing was a solid line of impressive storms. Now the storms are more scattered in nature and not very intense. OVERHYPED. Weather is so ignorant sometimes. All the excitement for nothing at all. just rain and wind. (a bit shy of the forecasted sustained winds and gusts). oh well…….
yeah nothing came of it, but to hear T.G. tell it, Nichoasville was gonna get blown away lol. Oh well, alls well that ends well 🙂 Better to be safe that sorry.
I think you need to look up the meaning of the word “ignorant”.
Just a nice shower now at Hamburg in Lex. Drove from Winchester to Lex on Todds Rd/Colby Rd at about 1 pm before the rain started. Three big trees down, snapped off, but luckily fell away from the road. Was wishing I had taken I-64, and put up with the construction!
i heard tornado warning was issued for hamilton and campbell counties, kenton was left out :(, when the squall line blew through i was on buttermilk pike and it was a standstill
i agree as far as storms getting weaker, that a good thing. they always do when they get closer to the mountains.
tech nothing ingnorant about what he said buddy.
Haha, I know. I was just wondering how weather can be ignorant. No big deal.
Ignorance is a state of being uninformed. I was not implying C.B. is ignorant. C.B. is one of the most awesome meteorologists ever. He actually loves his job and is darn good at it. I was implying that this cold front has been way overhyped. The winds are swift, but no where near the 50+ that were forecasted. Thank you sir! 🙂
Not doing anything but raining here in Bath but my husband went to get my daughter at school in Northern Rowan and they are on lockdown til 3:15. How’s the storm up there?
I love the fact that we got a decent dose of rain. I’m thinking 1/2 inch at this point….I never once heard thunder or saw lightning here in nortwest Lex. I’m just glad we got some decent rain. Temp has dropped drastically. Perhaps this event will change our pattern completely. I hope so! Now watch this post get moderated for no reason.
Had a tornado warning here in Pulaski County, sirens sounded in Somerset but never saw anything more than alot of wind direction change with height and scud.
Had gusty winds and heavy rain that has now tapered off into a nice soaker. I’m sooo grateful to have finally gotten measurable rain!
I would rather it be overhyped and nothing happen, than be underplayed and people get caught unaware and injured or lives lost.
I want to give you Five Stars for the excellent work in keeping us updated. This isn’t the kind of thing where your ego can get in the way and you’ve handled this wonderfully. I will absolutely keep you tuned in when the snow starts to fall!
No lightning or thunder here in Nicholasville either. Lol. When the sirens went off I was like it isn’t doing anything. I so far have 0.26″ of rain from this. A poor amount I think considering I was expecting much more. If we do reach 0.50″ we will have gotten more today then in the past few months.
Jake
CONGRATS ON ALL THE POSTS. MOST THE BLOG HAS ACCOMODATED SINCE LAST WINTER!!!!!!!!
Trees down in Laurel Co. Report of cars overturned possibly on Tobacco Road in Downtown London. My neighbor has damage to her storage building from a tree splitting and falling into the building. The temperature has dropped drastically and now we are getting some very light rain. No thunder or lightning here even during the storms. Glad they dismissed the kids a few minutes early from school or we would have been right out in the middle of it.
There was no thunder or lightning in here in Anderson county either. Interesting….
Check out all the tornado warnings down south, its crazy. And the low pressure thats producing this is now below 956 mb according to the SPC’s mesoscale analysis page.
http://w1.spc.woc.noaa.gov/exper/mesoanalysis/s19/pmsl/pmsl.gif?1288124996778
Reminds me of the Memorial Day weekend “outbreak” a we had around here few years ago in terms of warnings, except that a few tornadoes are actually touching down today.
Can any meteorologist chime in……How can there be no thunder and lightning at all with these storms? I realize thunder/ligtning isn’t criteria for warnings, but there is almost always some sort of rumbling when the line passes.
This “squall line producing severe storms and tornadoes” = DUD Gusty winds and rain are not severe. Not pointing anything at Chris. He is an awesome forecaster. This thing was blew entirely out of perspective by the NWS, accuweather, weather.com, etc. Like MarkLex said, where is the thunder and lightning that accompany “storms”? I got excited for nothing 🙁
More than likely it was due to the limited instability. While the instability was not all that great, the thermodynamics and energetics…were off the chart and enough to sustain the severe thunderstorms. We had a little thunder over here in Louisville…but very little in the way of cloud-to-ground lightning.
Nearing an inch of rain at Bluegrass Apt. COOL!!! We so needed it!
Always glad to see you posting here MJ. Kudos to the Louisville office of the NWS today, you guys did a wonderful job getting warnings out in a very timely manner.
A Thunderstorm is not defined severe by thunder and lightning and destruction… it is defined by winds of at least 58 mphs or hail of 1 inch in diameter or greater.
With over 50 storm reports from NWS offices in Louisville and Jackson, thousands of people without power at some point during the day, multiple reports of funnel clouds and tornadoes, and countless trees and power lines down… I think this storm lived up to expectations.
Just because things didn’t get horrible at your house don’t be disappointed… you don’t have tree limbs to clean up out your yard, damage to your home or car, and you have power so you can share your disappointment with the world. I’m sure for all the people who weren’t as fortunate as you would love to be in your shoes right now.
And one final point, this storm system had the lowest barometric pressure ever recorded over the continental US. It was a very historic storm from a meteorological prospective.
I have to agree with you on this. I am glad NWS, local weather, ect. made everyone aware of the potenial for severe weather but I think you can over do it sometimes on these tornado warnings. I think eventually people will ignore tornado warnings because of days like today. It is kind of like the boy who cried wolf.
Now don’t get me wrong I think we should keep an eye to the sky on days like this but sometimes it may get overdone. I just would hate to see people ignore warnings because NWS starts issuing them when no tornadoes are present.
IF YOU WILL NOTICE I SAID SQUALL LINE. I SAID REMOTELY NOTHING CLOSE TO THIS STORM AS A WHOLE. I DIDNT SAY THE STORM FAILED TO REACH EXPECTATIONS. AS I AM TYPING THIS THE CENTRAL BAROMETRIC PRESSURE OF THIS STORM IS SITTING AT 958 Mb. THAT IS PHENOMENAL FOR A NON-TROPICAL LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM. THIS STORM HAS A LOWER PRESSURE THAN THE 1993 SUPERSTORM AND THE EDMUND FITZGERALD STORM. SO YEAH, I AM AWARE OF THE MAGNITUDE THIS STORM HAS IN THE WORLD OF METEOROLOGY. THE NWS WILL ACCEPT FLYING GARBAGE CANS AS A STORM REPORT. ALL I AM SAYING IS THAT THE “SQUALL LINE” DIDNT PRODUCE WHAT I EXPECTED IT TO. IT BROKE UP TREMENDOUSLY BY THE TIME IT GOT TO E- KY. I AM ALSO WELL AWARE OF WHAT CLASSIFIES A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM. THREE CONFIRMED TORNADOES TODAY IN KY. IN PART, IT WAS MY BAD FOR NOT IMPLYING I WAS TALKING ABOUT E-KY. NO DOUBT THIS WAS A HISTORIC STORM.
http://www.spc.noaa.gov/climo/reports/today.html
Yes! Better safe than sorry. It was a very windy day. Some things got tore up across our state…..So it was worth it in the long run.
I was watching *another* station today (sorry) just happen to be the channel it was on at 1pm and they kept apologizing for interrupting Days of Our Lives…..I guess some were calling the station complaining……I sort of feel their pain. I was hooked on that show in the 80s but haven’t watched for years. But safety first
very thankful that the storm didn’t do as much as it could have in knox county looks like all we got was a little rain and some wind
You do realize that a very large number of the mesonet stations recorded winds of 45 to 55 mph. I’d say the NWS hit the nail on the head with the forecast. Maybe you should look up the facts before saying things that make you look ignorant.
Thanks for the comments. I’ll pass them along to the staff. I sat this one out as I was off. But I did some good kite flying this morning…seriously.
Thanks for the comments, I’ll pass them along to the staff. I sat this one out as I was off today. Did get out the kite this morning…seriously.
I think the NWS did a great job today. They issued the tornado warnings because all the ingredients were there. You may not think there were many tornadoes, and don’t take this the wrong way, there may not be, but the NWS is bound to go do at least one survey of the damage. This situation reminds me of Super Tuesday. They issued a ton of tornado warnings, some people think they cried “wolf”, then they go do survey’s and what do you know. There were at least 21 tornadoes in this area that night. You can’t say they cried wolf or dis them because they were trying to save lives. They’re the meteorologist, not you.(if any of you who read this is actually a meteorologist, please don’t take offense)
If a tornado hit E. KY. how would they know it was a tornado? Every yard has damaged cars. Every trailer looks like debris. There is trash everywhere.
Wow like it hasn’t been going downhill for years but here’s a link to the new future for the Weather Channel
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/blogs/live-feed/nbcs-weather-channel-revamp-forecasts-32414
It’s really sad what is happening to TWC given that they are the only “full” weather channel out there.
True? I don’t know until I hear the news tomorrow morning, but I have heard reports of vehicles being overturned, trees down, etc. in London KY this evening. For me, the wind picked up my garbage and somehow it is out of the can, out of the bag and strewn across my back yard. I had the can sitting out front for the garbage men to pick up. YES, I’m thankful for any kind of warnings we get. That’s why I come to this blog regularly. Thank you so much Chris.
I am really thankful to you for this great read!! You did a very great job, keep it up
