Good Thursday everyone and thanks a bunch for dropping by the blog to see how we may serve your weather needs. Many areas picked up some much needed rains over the past 24 hours and now we get set for a burst of fall chill that will carry us into the start of the upcoming weekend.
In my last blog I had asked for someone to send me a rain dance pic and I got one that was just too cute to pass up. We can thank young Lindsey for the recent rain as she got all decked out in her best rain gear and did a little dance…
Lindsey and her Mom are big blog readers so we wanted to make sure we gave them their due for getting us some rain. I am going to start showing more and more pics you guys send me so keep em’ coming. Give me anything to do with Fall, Halloween or some kids enjoying the fall weather and we will show you off here on the blog. I am also going to be doing something cool on here that will give you guys the chance to play weatherperson.
Let’s get into the weather portion of the program. Showers will exit stage right early today leaving us with a mix of sun and clouds. Winds will gust up today as much cooler air moves in..
Highs will range from near 60 in the east to the mid and upper 60s in the west.
Friday will see a weak system diving in from the northwest. This will cause an increase in some clouds and likely spit out a few showers in the east. Winds should crank up again with highs in the upper 50s to near 60 east and low and mid 60s elsewhere.
Clearing skies Friday night will allow temps to drop into the 30s for the entire region. This will give us the threat for frost into early Saturday morning. The rest of the weekend looks nothing short of awesome with highs in the 60s Saturday and near 70 for Sunday.
Temps will warm toward the lower 70s early next week before another shot of chill moves in for the middle and end of the week. A front will cross the area Tuesday and the models diverge a bit on exactly how much cold air will move in here behind it. The new GFS is showing a heck of a push of cold air…
Next Wednesday Night
Whether next week turns THAT cold or not… the pattern is going to take a turn toward cold before the month is over and this should set us up for a colder than normal November. All this fits into what we have been saying for a while… a likely early start to winter this year. The Indicies we look at continue to point in that direction…
I will have updates as needed so check back. Have a great Thursday and take care.
We had the largest 1 day rainfall since early July in Georgetown last night.
I keep hearing the terms “Southeast RIDGE” thrown around a lot on this forum. Are any other areas of the US affected by a high pressure ridge that lasts so long or is it just the southeast? Funny I never heard this term growing up. I always heard of the Bermuda High in the summer. Is that the same thing?
Not much of the “much needed rains” fell on NW LEX. Sucks to see so much rain on the radar and yet so little falls. My rain gauge hardly got anything in it.
Thanks Chris. Those winds are cool this morning. I should have worn a sweater to work. Have a great day!
Yep, the radar looked much more exciting than what was actually falling. Why is that?
Yep, Bermuda High is the same thing as the SE Ridge. Typically the Bermuda high drifts a bit east during the winter months in the northern hemisphere. However, depending on the global pattern it can extend westward into the SE US resulting in broad southwesterly flow aloft.
