Good Sunday everyone. Here is hoping the blog finds you having a wonderful final weekend of summer. The summer temps aren’t going to be leaving us anytime soon… and the rain is a tease! Hmmm… hot temps and rains that only tease us. Yep… that pretty much sums up the past couple of months.
Speaking of teasing rain… it is doing it today as showers and thunderstorms have been trying their best to work into our region as a front settles southward into the Ohio Valley. This can certainly bring a shower to, especially, the northern part of the region… but most of the drops will only flirt with us into tonight…
Temps will be the big story of the next several days as the central and west hit 90 or better as the east heads into the upper 80s. Blah Blah Blah
Speaking of teases… the GFS is certainly doing that over the next few weeks as it wants to make it rain around here. It tries it sooner than you think…
Wednesday

The model REALLY teases us with some big rains next weekend into next Monday. Look at the 60 hour total…

On a similar note… the model does show something I have been teasing for the end of the month into early October… the potential for a tropical system to develop in the Gulf of Mexico and roll northward as some of that cold air in Canada finally dives southward…

Ok… that is enough teasing for one day. Have a great Sunday and take care.

If the rain has gotten this close, then we just need to think about it being here for a little while longer. 🙂
Rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain!! come here!
I’m seriously beginning to wonder if this pattern is going to continue well into mid-November.
I rember reading that from someone. warner and dry through November. I just was hoping they were wrong but it looks like they may be right. Bummer…
Lol, looks to be another wet Sorghum Festival again this year. Its a rare occasion for it to NOT rain at all on the last full weekend of September. I really hope we get everything set up before the rain hits!
The WEG start in six days and we’re still in the 90’s. Unbelievable. A friend is shuttling the competitors from the airport to their hotels and she said they are all asking, “Where is the bluegrass?” It is BROWN and DEAD!! 🙁
Thank you for the nugget of hope. I know it isn’t really going to rain, but it is nice to have hope.
I guarantee you for us to get needed rain, it will come at the most inopportune time.
Did you see the frost freeze dates map? Check out this link. I find it odd; for example, Elizabethtown and a lot of extreme southern KY has an earlier freeze than Covington? What’s that about?

The data is derived from not only from first order stations (like CVG, LEX, SDF), but also co-operative observing stations. These co-operative stations are mainly rural and are typically colder than the metro areas. We’ve noted that places in South Central KY often get a freeze before the metro areas. Also have to factor in topography as well.
MJ what about Monticello tends to make it so much cooler than other spots at night?
I was noticing the next potential tropical system is already moving to the northwest and it is just now around the cape verde islands. Is the same pattern that has us hot and dry steering all those tropical systems away from the U.S.?
