Good Friday everyone and welcome to the start of the weekend. It is shaping up to be a soggy and cool start for parts of the state as what is left of Hermine works through state. This will be weakening out as it does so and we will then shift our focus to a cold front arriving on the scene for Saturday. That will likely touch of a couple rounds of showers and maybe some strong thunderstorms.

I want to start off with a hearty welcome to a ton of new folks checking out the blog from the Louisville area and from western Kentucky. I have been getting a lot of e-mails lately from folks who are new to what we do here. To the bloggers who have been with me for years… make them feel welcome as our blog family continues to grow. To the new folks… just wait until we get into winter and you will see a blog that is jumping with action. By the way… the blog has two web addresses that take you to the same place but only one allows you to post comments and that is www.kyweathercenter.com .

We begin our weather journey with a Friday featuring some big weather swings across the state. A plume of showers and some isolated rumbles of thunder will be working east-southeast across central and western Kentucky into the afternoon. The farther east this stuff gets… the weaker it will be as it encounters some much drier air. This should set the stage for a weakening band of rain that eventually fizzles out by later today. The radar will show a very sharp cutoff on the northern and eastern edge of the rain shield and you should be able to see that quite nicely…

Again… it will be a very sharp cutoff in terms or actual rainfall from the leftovers of Hermine. The other big story of the day will be the temps as we will likely see some VERY cool temps for the areas getting in on the showers and clouds. Temps in these areas may not get out of the 60s. Areas getting in on some sun across the east and north will see readings well into the mid and upper 70s. Across the west… highs will reach the 80s behind the rains. Here is how it looks on the GFS…

You can follow the temps here…

I mentioned a cold front blowing into town for Saturday and this will produce a few waves of showers and thunderstorms. Temps will once again be tricky because we may see some breaks in the clouds in between boomers. Most areas should hit the 80s with enough sun. If we do get some sunshine… this may aid in the development of a couple of strong or even severe thunderstorms and that is another aspect to watch for. The GFS is showing the best action to come during the second half of Saturday…

Saturday Evening

For Kentucky Wildcats and Western Kentucky Hilltoppers fans… find your poncho because you will likely put it to good use before and during Saturday evenings game in Lexington…

Sunday will see a few morning showers moving to our east and leaving us with another very nice day. Highs in the mid and upper 70s look good right now.

Looking down the road into next week… our cool shot for the middle and end of the week may be delayed some as the overall pattern reacts to what may be a couple of hurricanes out in the Atlantic Ocean. If the models are correct… the next few weeks are going to be seeing the tropics taking center stage in the world of weather.

I will have updates as needed so check back. Have a great Friday and take care.
