Good Saturday to one and all and welcome to the weekend. The weather across the state played out as we expected with a band of rain working across the area creating a big swing in temps. Now we increase the threat for showers and thunderstorms today and some of these could be on the strong side.
We have a cold front working in from the west and this will produce a couple of rounds of storms. The first round is likely to be ongoing to start the day across the southern counties. Locally heavy rains will be possible from this stuff as it works out of the state fairly early on. We will then see some scattered storms going up into the early afternoon hours. This action will become more widespread as we head into the late afternoon and evening hours as the front approaches. It looks as if the atmosphere will have just enough juice for a few of these storms go be on the strong or severe. That will especially be the case if we can get some breaks in the clouds allowing for the sun to destabilize things a bit.
Here is the all inclusive severe weather map for today from the Storm Prediction Center…
The radars should be pretty active today and you can follow all the action here…
For those heading out to Commonwealth Stadium this evening for the Kentucky-Western Kentucky game… take the ponchos as they should come in handy. That should especially be the case for tailgating and early in the game as the storm action may shift off to the east of Lexington during the evening hours.
Temps today will be almost impossible to forecast for any one location. Areas that have more clouds and rain will stay in the 70s… a little more sunshine means some low 80s are a good bet. Sometimes it is just that simple. ![]()
Leftover showers in the east Sunday morning will quickly scoot off to the east leaving the entire region with a very pleasant day. A mix of sun and clouds and temps in the upper 70s will make for a nice end to the weekend. Western Kentucky will see some lower 80s for highs.
Temps early next week should be the warmest of the next week as readings spike into the low and maybe middle 80s… especially Monday. A cold front should pass through here later Tuesday with very little in the way of clouds or moisture. It will bring another shot of some pleasant temps into the middle of the week.
The pattern by the end of the week into next weekend will try to go wet as yet another trough digs in from the northwest. The models have been advertising this to have a decent amount of rain with it and that will be something to watch for.
I will have updates as needed today and will use Twitter to send out some quick updates as well. You can follow me @Kentuckyweather . These updates also show up in the twitter feed in the top right hand corner of the blog. Have a great Saturday and take care.

Bring on Winter.
My rain gauge here in Nicholasville says I got .10″, guess I’ll take it.
I hope that wasn’t all the rain 🙁
I suspect this was the “usual” under performer unless something pops. Oh well another dry spell and nice weather for a week. YAY!
I know! We here in Versailles got barely a sprinkle. Nothing in the old fashion rain gauge of mine either. I guess those going to tailgate are happy and the game goers even happier.
Is there still a chance for rain later today? Our deck barely got wet. We haven’t had any rain since July!
There were some very impressive rainfall amounts last night, mainly in south central and southern ky.. kymesonet showing casey co. with over 3 inches and knox co. over 2 inches… well here you can see for yourself…

Are we suppose to have another threat of storms once this line passes. NOAA has 80% chance for this afternoon and tonight. Is that the same 80% or more to come?
Chris, can you check my last attempted comment, it went to moderation, but it was about these storms
Everything went to the S/SE of Bardstown a little while ago, then blew up pretty good. All we got from it was thunder and wind.
Oh, yea! To everyone-of course,I[ve been a loyal reader/poster on CB’s blog for years now, but want to thank you guys for welcoming all the others from my neck of the woods that are now joining the blog after the untimely “retirement”(ahem…) of John Belski. This was/is always THE BLOG to go to during Winter, as was Mr. Belski’s(Ialways posted on both!) Gonna miss JB, certainly, but we appreciate the kindness of CB and you guys in making us feel welcomed & hopefully the newcomers will feel as I always have about this blog and all the great ppl I’ve been able to communicate w/ the past few years! 🙂

Absolutely unbelieveable-this new line formed east of Georgetown. We had 5-10 minutes of light rain this morning, then nothing this afternoon.
Mediocre t shower in northwest Lex. Lasted three minutes. Gone.
storm prediction center having another awful day for parts of the region should at least have a md out.
I feel like this line will be especially impressive as it moves into areas like London/Corbin… Theres nothing tho slow down the intensification.
Does our chance of rain end after this line passes
Is the rain chance over now that the line is past me?
Hey Patty. Do you know if our cable service (time Warner) will have the game tonight?
NW LEX sure didn’t get much from that last one. .45″ for the day so far out of two batches. Both fell so fast the ground is still hard as a rock.
Less than .1 in Georgetown, now up to just under a half inch since July 23.
hi from the town of wayne, wva. i know i live in wva but i do love this weather blogs comment section so i hope all the nice blue grass bloggers do not mind me commenting. the much to be desired nws in charleston wva has put out a special weather statement for wayne county in wva and a few other counties in kentucky for the growing line of thunderstorms to the east of lexington that is pushing east about 35 mph and at that rate it will move into western wva between 6 and 7 pm. i wish the comment section at wsaz.com was this active and set up the way this comment section was set up. thanks for letting me on here to say a few words and you will always know it is me when i come on here because i will always open up with the comment of “hi 1 more time from the town of wayne”. thank you and god bless you all.
I spoke too soon about the tailgaters I guess, but we here in Versailles only got a few minutes of light rain. Everything is still very dry here!
storms blew threw here in knox co. with severe weather, VERY HEAVY RAIN, almost 4″ since midnight !!!FLASH FLOODING IS OCCURING here in the Bimble area of knox co. and rain continues to fall…
I sure hate that for you all..thats horrible…we’ve had an impressive almost 4″ since midnight last night, FLASH FLOODING IS OCCURING in my part of knox co. and its still raining….
Does anyone remember the website from last year to watch live uk football? Our cable service in Versailles is not carrying it?
Hey MikeM!!! I was wondering the say thing. How did you like all that wet weather we had today? LOL!
Nothing but a 20 second shower here in south Lex today. Another disappointment. The grass is just gone.
Mike and Patty I am so with you, looking for it EVERYWHERE! I need my cats lol
http://www.nationofblue.com has a live feed of the game…………whew, GO CATS!
Just checked back in! Thanks ‘chelle!
Even though the Hilltoppers losing streak looks like it’s going to continue, I’m proud of them. They’re showing a lot of heart and not giving up.
Had plenty of rain in Boyle County. Now ready for it to go away again, lol. Hope people north of me get some soon.
