Good Wednesday afternoon everyone. Today was the first day of school for my little one so I have been busy with other duties today. The big news is obviously the flash flooding across southern and southeastern Kentucky. Rainfall totals of 2″-6″ have been common in many areas. It appears Bowling Green and Corbin have seen the most flooding so far.
Check out some of the rain totals showing up across the south…

Impressive!!! Something else that is also impressive is the VERY sharp cutoff line to the rains across the north. The focus will continue to be across southern and southeastern Kentucky. Moderate to locally heavy rains will continue for several more hours this afternoon before finally settling down a bit. Both the NAM and GFS are trying to develop another heavy rain band across extreme southern and southeastern Ky later this evening and overnight. If that is indeed the case… a renewed threat for flash flooding will be with us tonight.
Track all of the rains here…
I will have updates as needed so check back. Take care.

got alot of creeks out of their banks here in parts of knox co. with moderate to heavy rain continuing
“It’s a bright, bright bright sunshiney day”, and the humidity is cranking up too. Be careful to those down south, the only thing I have to worry about is cutting my foot open on that crunchy brown stuff that used to be grass in my yard.
Raining hard today in Wise County. Some streams and creeks are high and muddy but no flooding to speak of at this moment….
Mostly sunny, nice breeze, with zero humidity, in beautiful downtown Georgetown.
another HUGE SLUG OF MOISTURE moving north outta central Tn.. looks like it could be a long flooding night for many in southern ky…stay safe and take care gang…
Since yesterday i have received 2.3 inches of rain at my house
Scratch that somebody had turned over my rain gauge so prob had alot more than what its showing but at least 2.3
There is a sharp cut off on the clouds as well. The sun is shining bright in Lexington since around 1p today and still was when I left around 630p. In Nicholasville the temp only got to 76f and we received .25″ this morning. It has been cloudy all day here but not just 5 miles to the Kohls area.
Jake
Has anyone ever thought about this??
Take a look at the normal average annual rainfall for the state of KY. The further south you go, that increases. So Bowling Green averages about ten more inches of rain per year than Lexington. The same goes true the farther north you go into Ohio/Indiana…So I guess we don’t “need” as much rain in Lexington/Georgetown as they “need” in southern KY…….And I guess Dayton OH doesn’t “need” as much rain as Lexington
Wow, Belski will retire Sept. 8th. Anyone have any inside info on this one? I wonder if Chris would have any interest in the position?
I know. I saw that too!
Shocked to see that Belski is giving it up. I enjoyed following his blog. In fact, the past couple of years I’ve depended on CB and JB for reliable weather forecasting.
While it would be a dream come true to have Bailey working at WAVE3, it looks like Kevin Harned is going to take over the reigns. Besides, it seems that CB went to WVA to be close to his wife’s family.
Im glad that the southern and eastern parts of the state are seing beneficial rains, but the situation is growing very dangerous in the bluegrass area, in versailles, we have had 4 tenths of an inch of rain since july 7th, the leaves are coming off the trees and grass fires a a daily problem, wish at least a couple of inches of rain would come into woodford county and at least help a little with the dust.
