Good Thursday everyone and thanks for dropping by the blog. Our Wednesday turned out to feature the strange weather we thought it would with a big rainfall and temp gradient from south to north. Our southern counties got in on some torrential rains that caused some flooding problems. This also kept temps in the low and mid 70s for highs. Farther north… it was sunny with temps in the 80s.
Today may feature a similar setup but with everything pushed farther south. One thing we really need to watch for early today will be the threat for another heavy rain event across our far southern and southeastern counties. Some of these same areas picked up several inches of rain Wednesday so it won’t take much to cause more flooding issues. The rains across the south should push on out of town during the afternoon hours. Much of the region will see partly to most sunny skies.
Track today’s southern showers here…
Temps for today should have another north to south gradient. Areas in the north will hit the mid 80s while our southern counties may have a tough time getting to 80 again.
Hot and Humid weather returns for Friday into Saturday. Temps will make a run toward 90 both days as humidity levels increase. A weak system will move in for the weekend and should have enough to produce scattered showers and thunderstorms.

Now that we are getting closer to fall… my email box is blowing up with people wanting to know my thoughts on the fall and winter ahead. I will soon start talking more about what my thoughts are for the months ahead and will also show you what some of the seasonal forecast models are saying. Must read blogging is coming. ![]()
Have a great Thursday and take care.

Good morning Chris and everyone. Looking foreward to your fall and winter forecast Chris. I hope it says no snow, now ice, and mild temps. 🙂
Last year I had two separate weeks with no water, and I couldn’t get my car off the hill for days.
Somebody asked about Belski retiring from WAVE-3 yesterday. When I was in college (10+ years ago) we’d go up and hang out with Belski in the weather center. At the time, his salary was around a quarter-million dollars from what we were told. Remember, he was there during the golden years when there was no internet or cell phones and the TV weatherguy was “IT”. I heard that WAVE-3 is sad to lose him, but happy too because that will be a big boost to their budget having all that money back that they give him.
OK……
Got my electric bill via email this morning. I sort of squinted my eyes as I was looking because I was trying to prepare for the worst……..It was 165.00!! I was thinking it would be A LOT more than that……..I don’t get that…I mean, the last 2 summers have not been this hot and it has been higher than that……..I think since my compressor was replaced in my heat pump that it must be running more efficiently.
Belski……A quarter of a million dollars ten years ago! Wow
Amen! Looking forward to little snow, NO ice, and mild temps. Hope that is what kind of forecast we get.
Looking forward to my electric bill also. Got a new heat pump last month and I am hoping for a much better looking electric bill!
My winter wish is that we don’t go weeks at a time where the temp doesn’t get above freezing. That gets brutal. And a decent snow. One inch doesn’t cut it.
Like Wendy in Mercer County…a winter with plenty of snow, no ice and temps around 30 degrees (to not melt the snow) is perfect for me.
Why have a winter with no snow and mild temps! 🙂 (just joshing with folks)
I love snow too. But my goodness, last year Hazard had frozen water mains and a lot of people (including) me had not water for a week at a time.
Maybe we could have some snow, but no periods of freezing that last a week. 🙂
Chris, am I right in thinking that the decent rainfall in Lex. this summer will result in spectacular colors this fall? Let’s not rush into winter- how about a mild and extended autumn first? Any luck on that wish?
My son lives in Cookeville, TN (Putnam County). They have terrible flooding. I believe they had more than seven inches of rain yesterday.
NewsChannel5.com has pictures of the Cookeville and Surrounding areas’ flooding.
You are indeed right. A wet summer always brings out excellent fall foliage displays.
Average temperature: 80.4 degrees. Total rainfall: 0.80 inches.
NOT my kind of month AT ALL so far. 🙁
I’m not so sure I would consider this a “wet” summer…..
For being as hot as it has been, it was certainly wetter than 2007 or 2008.
Good post man, just looking around some blogs, seems a pretty nice platform you are using.
This is such a great resource that you are providing and you give it away for free. I love seeing websites that understand the value of providing a quality resource for free.
