Good Friday to one and all and welcome to the weekend. It will be a weekend where the heat and storms team up on us to deliver a nice little one-two punch. We got a preview of that Thursday as temps were well into the 90s and into the 100 degree range before booming thunderstorms blew into town. Look for this to repeat itself the next few days before the storms finally win out.

As mentioned… storms will go up today in scattered fashion. A few could briefly go severe with damaging winds the main threat. These boomers will also be very heavy rain makers and this should be their calling card into the coming weekend. Localized high water concerns will continue to with us for the next several days.

Here are your storm tracking radars…

As far as the heat goes today… what else can be said about it? Temps will range in the low to middle 90s across the east and will hit 100 again in the west. Throw in the humidity and you get a heat index value today back into the 100-115 range across the state.

Today’s Highs

Saturday will be another very hot and humid day as our thunderstorm chances ramp up a bit. A cold front will come calling later Sunday into Monday. This front will bring much more widespread showers and thunderstorms to the area and could touch off some severe storms and bring torrential rains in here.

This front is likely to stall out just to our south for much of next week. A lot of deep, tropical moisture will be streaming northward out of the Gulf of Mexico during this time. This has may set the stage for repeat showers and thunderstorms next week into next weekend. That is a setup that we really need to keep an eye on as a stalled front and tropical moisture can spell trouble for areas where those two get together.

The other big news for next week will be the MUCH cooler air that will finally move in here. Temps closer to normal should be the rule for much of next week.

I will have updates as needed so check back. Have a great Friday and take care.
