Good Tuesday to one and all. The heat returned to the state Monday and will be back with us again today. This time it may bring a few more friends along for the ride as high humidity and scattered storms return. The thunderstorms will actually be trying to do the heat in over the next few days and that may actually be the case out there today in some areas. We will talk about that and look down the road toward a pattern change to cooler weather. ![]()
In case you were playing along at home… temps Monday got downright hot and outperformed many forecasts out there. Lexington hit the mid 90s while Louisville came within one degree of hitting 100. Will the same happen today? I do not think today is nearly as clear cut as how things were for Monday as we have a better risk of some clouds and scattered thunderstorms. This will make forecasting temps today very tricky to say the least. If the storms or clouds are slow to develop today… then temps will be as hot as they were a day ago. I do suspect we will get in on some storms today ad these should be slow movers that can put down a lot of rain in localized areas.
Track the action here…
Let us put the temps today in a general 90-95 degree range with even hotter weather to the west. Higher humidity levels will make it feel closer to 100 in the east and 110 in the west.
Wednesday will see the showers and thunderstorms increase during the afternoon hours and these should become even more widespread for Thursday…
GFS Thursday Evening

The threat for scattered storms will likely be with us into the coming weekend as a cold front swings in from the northwest by later Sunday and Monday. It is this front that will crush the heat that has been with us for much of the summer as it kicks it to the west coast allowing for some Canadian air to push into much of the eastern half of the country. Here is what the European Model looks like for Monday…

That is a GREAT looking map for those of us who are not a fan of the heat. ![]()
Have a great Tuesday and take care.

I will take the heat this week if and only if we do get some rain here in the Lexington area this week. Also only if we do get to enjoy some nice weather for once next week. Nice being not hot and humid.
Here is website with a winter forecast. He updates it in September and November. I liked what I saw until I got to our region and it specifically says, KY at risk for ICE STORMS! I thought with what I saw meant snow. I guess this guy knows about the dome.

Look at the three month seasonal forecasts with a grain of salt. Look at our technology; many hurricanes were predicted and it’s been so dull so far. Having no idea what it’s going to do two weeks from now much less months from now. It is fun to look at those forecasts though to get others thoughts. I’m sure there have been blazing hot summers in the past followed by frigid winters with lots of snow……There have also been cool summers followed by mild winters….Cool summers followed by frigid winters…..etc….It’s so difficult to pin down. Weather is maddening sometimes, but fun 🙂
Thanks Chris. I check here in the mornings and the evenings. 🙂 If the weather gets rough, I check throughout the day.
Have a great day everyone and stay cool.
Yay for some cooler temps next week! I really feel for the kids and drivers on school busses the next few days! Gonna be uncomfortable, to say the least!
One thing is for sure. I waled out on the deck last night about 10:30, and it sure was a LOT warmer and muggy than the previous two nights!
The storms are really scattered but abundant. It wold be crazy for the Lexington area to not get rain. We won’t get it though so I guess t isn’t that crazy. Looking around my yard it is going brown. The on;y thing I am watering is my landscape beds.
Not quite brown yet here in Richtown, but it will be soon if we dont get any storms/rain for next week. The storm that hit Madison co. last night was on the far western end..so Richmond remained dry. Parts of Garrard Co. got a pretty good dose of rain out of it though.
There’s a thunderhead cloud just off to the east now, and it’s not showing on radar yet, but it may show returns soon into the eastern parts of Madison county and into Estill.
Nice storm in Danville right now.
August has started off even hotter and dryer than July did. Wow. So far: Rain 0.04″ Avg. temp. 80.4 degrees. Crazy stats right there… August is my least favorite month of the year for a reason! RAIN and cooler weather can’t get here soon enough.
Some of the craziest thunderstorms I have seen have been in August
Gonna try typing this again. Started once and lightning knocked the power out for a minute. Getting one heck of a storm right over my part of Fayette co. Looked on the radar and it’s just a small cell right over me. Was pouring the rain and lot of big claps of thunder. Looks to be just sitting over my area and not moving. Im thankful for the rain though.
Saw this right after my first post.SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT
