Good Tuesday to one and all. The heat returned to the state Monday and will be back with us again today. This time it may bring a few more friends along for the ride as high humidity and scattered storms return. The thunderstorms will actually be trying to do the heat in over the next few days and that may actually be the case out there today in some areas. We will talk about that and look down the road toward a pattern change to cooler weather.

In case you were playing along at home… temps Monday got downright hot and outperformed many forecasts out there. Lexington hit the mid 90s while Louisville came within one degree of hitting 100. Will the same happen today? I do not think today is nearly as clear cut as how things were for Monday as we have a better risk of some clouds and scattered thunderstorms. This will make forecasting temps today very tricky to say the least. If the storms or clouds are slow to develop today… then temps will be as hot as they were a day ago. I do suspect we will get in on some storms today ad these should be slow movers that can put down a lot of rain in localized areas.

Track the action here…

Let us put the temps today in a general 90-95 degree range with even hotter weather to the west. Higher humidity levels will make it feel closer to 100 in the east and 110 in the west.

Wednesday will see the showers and thunderstorms increase during the afternoon hours and these should become even more widespread for Thursday…

GFS Thursday Evening

The threat for scattered storms will likely be with us into the coming weekend as a cold front swings in from the northwest by later Sunday and Monday. It is this front that will crush the heat that has been with us for much of the summer as it kicks it to the west coast allowing for some Canadian air to push into much of the eastern half of the country. Here is what the European Model looks like for Monday…

That is a GREAT looking map for those of us who are not a fan of the heat.

Have a great Tuesday and take care.
