Good Tuesday and welcome to another wintry day. We’re in the final week of March and we are STILL tracking winter weather across the bluegrass state. This harsh winter keeps on keeping on, but spring has to take over and some point and I think that point is near.
Today’s snow will come at us in waves and is likely to put down light accumulations for many. This could be enough to cause slick travel… especially early today then again during the evening. Winds will be gusty with highs only in the 30s.
Wednesday morning will start downright frigid with mid to upper teens. We may be within reach of some record lows before warming toward the upper 30s and low 40s with some sunshine.
Milder air floods in for Thursday and Friday, but it comes with a damp price. Showers and a few thunderstorms will develop ahead of a cold front pushing in from the west…
Temps behind the front will come down several degrees by Saturday. From that point, temps begin to warm and we could be looking at 70s by early next week…
While I am hawking a much warmer pattern… that does not mean we are totally out of the ugly weather woods. The setup doesn’t look to be full of blue skies and sunshine in the first half of April. Wet weather and thunderstorms will become more of an issue during this time. To make matters worse… I still can’t gurantee we flake free through the rest of spring.
Speaking of flakes… let’s track what’s out there today.

Have a great day and take care.
Richmond on Chris last post you was telling me I need therapy thanks for the advise but I don’t need therapy I just hope that I never have to live thought a night light that again not knowing where my daughter was until 4:00 that next morning was something know one can understand unless you go thought that it took us that long to get to her before we knew she was ok and the destruction we see that night trying to get to her was something I don’t ever want to see again I just pray to the good lord everyday that he will be with us and pray that I never see another tornado again…..
Marsha-if you read my post then you saw that I stated I was not trying to be rude. I am a counselor and know that traumatic events can cause a lot of fear and anxiety. I just thought that maybe talking to someone and learning some coping techniques could help. I just hate to see someone suffer when there are things that could help. I have actually been through a destructive tornado as I child so I do understand. God bless.
I have certainly thought about counseling. We escaped the March 2, 2012 tornado with just seconds to spare and came back home to 176,000 dollars in damage. I still have nightmares and I still fight down that sick panic every time the wind blows.
It would probably help. I am sorry that things are so difficult for you.
Thank you, Richmond, I appreciate that.
I know I don’t think you was being rude it’s ok It’s just going to take me a while to get back where I was with storms I have always been scared to death of storms and that night was the scarey night of my life and the days after so any time I heard storms are in the forecast I freak but I know The Lord will take care of us he did that night he watch over my daughter and keep her safe you know I didn’t lose anything in that tornado some of my family lost there home and some of the people who lost there lives I knew but you don’t have to lose yourself to be affected my heart broke for the lose of my town and my heart was broke for all the people of west liberty that lost and its not that easy to just put that behind you so yes I really hate the spring season that ahead of us and I know there will be many times I will panic but I will be ok in time
You are right in what you say Richmond. And you said it gently and with sensitivity. As you well know, counseling doesn’t work unless a person realizes the need. And that only comes with the realization that it can help, even in areas we never knew needed attention. I speak from experience.
Thank you Scott. It just really bothers me to hear of others suffering when I know they could be helped. I did not want to come across as being rude or not being sensitive to their fears.
Large portion of Elliott county waking up without power this morning.
Nice “farewell” snow this morning. Everyone say goodbye to the snowflakes for a while.
Chris got about 2 inches here in west liberty and still pouring look very pretty this morning…..
Snowing at a good clip in Lex with about half an inch on elevated surfaces and gras. This is mother nature’s way of saying goodbye to the snow. You have officially endured the winter of 2013-2014! (For folks CKY and north) The scene outside a week from today will be totally different. Watch everything bloom like crazy after this last cold snap. That’s what happened last year.
I haven’t heard any word on a possibility of severe weather to accompany the warmth next week. Most mets are saying it’ll start the last half of April, let’s hope it’s like last year, a mostly quiet season. (Except for the couple of weeks that included the Moore tornado)
Average date of last “trace” of snowfall (meaning flurries/snow showers) is April 7 in Lexington and April 3 in Louisville. The average date of the last measurable snowfall is March 22 in Lexington and March 14 in Louisville.
So not that bad, it’s basically normal for this last mesurable snowfall.

Got a light dusting in Carrie, already melted off with sun peaking out
Thanks Chris! Hey guys. I have not been ignoring the blog, but for some reason it is not letting me post anything. Chris, have I gotten on the black list or something and if so, what did I do? I will apologize and do better. We have had a couple of very good snow showers here this morning, and they were very pretty, but, I, like Chris, and almost everyone else, am ready for spring and warmer temps. the few pretty days we have had in the past two weeks have spoiled me. Ready for some more!
In any event, spring is getting closer, and I am looking forward to that!
Have a great Tuesday, everyone. Stay warm. Remember, this too shall pass. 😉 Thanks Chris, for all you do.
It may only be that you are using specific words, even innocent words. For example, my posts about SkyWarn storm spotter “courses” would always get automatically deleted. Finally figured out the seemingly innocent words “c*l*a*s*s” and “c*l*a*s*s*e*s” (like at a school) were the problem, apparently due to the arrangment of three certain letters. So I now use storm spotter “course” instead. Hope this helps.
Same here, my post about snow on the gras is misspelled on purpose because I cannot put the whole word. G*r*a*s*s When I have a post that doesn’t go through, I search for any 3-letter bad words within my comment and change it.
Ok, it doesn’t have to be 3 letters anyway
Strange, Coffeelady successfully used the word p*a*s*s in her post, but that word otherwise causes the automod to delete posts.
I have nothing at my house but earlier today you could count the individual flakes on the cars and elevated surfaces.
Light snow has been falling in Nashville TN for the last few hours. Not exactly a welcomed sight for those like me with spring fever, even though Nashville has had only 1.5 inches snow since last fall (normal closer to 10 inches). But I suppose it’s better than severe wx.
We have a pretty nice snow shower in Harlan County right now… I admit part of me would love to see one last decent snowfall, but the other part is ready for spring. Hopefully the 2014-2015 winter season will be better for us southeastern snow lovers.
Thanks for the update, Chris!
wow, a nice burst of snow has formed right over NE Louisville.
I quick 1/4″ of snow on the ground. Pretty impressive with it being during the afternoon hours, and the sun peaking through. It will melt as soon as it stops. But, nice little parting gift form mother nature for us. Along with the 1/4″ last night, this puts as at 30.5″ for the year in NE Louisville, and probably will be the final total. Not a bad winter at all in these parts. 🙂
It has literally not stopped snowing in Berea since about 4AM. I cannot remember how many years it has been since it has snowed this many consecutive hours. Sure, it keeps melting but it is accumulating in the wooded areas. Very beautiful and serene out there today.
Don’t worry, those of you who enjoy it will have your tornadoes, lightning, floods, micro bursts, hail and what not soon enough. For at least today, suck it up Team Spring buttercups.
The snows still coming down pretty good right now at 1:50pm. Before it starting melting I measured 1 inch on my deck. Not too shabby for late March.
Normal march snow day in frankfort, snows heavy for a few minutes then the sun pops out and melts it, ready for the warmup, seen enough snow for one winter in my part of the world!
We have had some really impressive off and on snow showers this afternoon here in Pikeville.
Crazy snow in Lexington right now– wind really blowing it around and it has started to accumulate again in a matter of 5 minutes. Will be interesting to see the daily total–it was 0.7 inches as of 2:00.
Its snowing through the sunshine here in Ashland/Catlettsburg. Its pretty but this morning was AWESOME!!! The snow was a whiteout about 8am. I made my dog come in, she is a snow lover too, about that time and she actually cried tears bc I told her she had to laydown, which meant she couldn’t go out. I felt like I was being a mean Mom to her so I let her go back out. I have bittersweet feelings about the snow leaving and Spring/Summer coming. I love Spring and I like Summer as long as it doesn’t get so hot you can’t breathe. I tend to prefer cooler weather. My flowerbed is trying to come alive and I like that so bring on Spring. I will make it through Summer one way or the other. I am looking so forward to camping. Campground opens April 1st!! Thanks Chris for all you do. Maybe just maybe you will get your four day weekend sometime soon. We have to keep our friendly weatherdude happy!!!
Snow on and off all day. Right not it is snowing CRAZY, probably the hardest I’ve seen all winter! Can’t see across the street at all, visibility is basically zero and accumulating fast!
Some of the heaviest snow of the winter in frankfort, temps dropped to 30 with strong winds and close to 1 inch of snow in 20 minutes!
Crazy winter!
Wow, thundersnow! Lightning detection equipment showing some strikes in northern Kentucky as well as Ohio and Indiana.
Light snow has fallen since early this morning here in Nashville TN, although for the moment it has stopped with some sun peeking through the overcast.
I knew it was gusty, but this?! Nashville recorded a wind gust of 36 mph just before 1pm central time.
One section of my workplace gets eerie whistling sounds during windy conditions 😉 .
And…..it’s snowing again.
White out is Cynthiana. Some of the heaviest snow of the season and that’s saying something with the winter we’ve had in Harrison County.
This long, heavier squall line of snow is showing up rather well on radar amongst the other snow showers.
The lense of the Clays Ferry Bridge webcam is covered with snow!
Frankfort and Cynthiana webcams were whiteout a while ago. Then bluesky with heavy snowcover. Now that snowcover is already rapidly melting.
White out in northwest Lexington…….Or White IN…….either way, all I see is white
Definitely some impressive snow shower activity with the biggest flakes I have seen in quite some time in Knoxville today. If this had happened in January or February with the temps to support it (as it should have been), this could have easily been a 4″ or more snowfall. On to real Spring weather!!!!!!
