Good afternoon everyone. I wanted to drop by for a quick update on where we stand in terms of possible flash flooding and severe weather and to share some pics of flooding in northeastern Kentucky.
The most active area of the state today has been across the south and west as a stubborn band of storms continues to put down a whole lot of water. We are slowly going to focus on more storms going up farther north into some of the same areas hit hard last night. Also.. keep an eye on Indiana and Illinois for storms trying to form there as these will roll southeastward into Kentucky. Heavy rains can cause more flash flooding in a few areas. We could even see a severe storm or two.
Track the storms here…
Devastating flash floods hit much of northern and northeastern Kentucky last night. Radar estimates of better than 8″ of rain show up from around Maysville southeastward into Olive Hill in Carter County…
With totals like that… severe flash flooding was a given and that is exactly what happened. Take a look at a few pics from Carter County…
Once again… the power of water is amazing!
I will continue to keep an eye on the local flash flood threat this evening and tonight across the state and will have updates as needed.
Take care.
I wish we could spread the rain out so that some spots wouldn’t get hit with SO much. We’ve barely had any rain in Clay County compared to these other places. I’m not complaining…just saying we could have taken an inch or so from someone else. 🙂
I don’t like the looks of the radar along the areas that got hammered last night…
I’m trying to figure out what’s up with the dead spots in people’s yards in my neighborhood. One would think by looking at peoples yards that we have had no rain. My yard looked great this spring, but now it looks bad.
Same with my yard Mark. I live in Pulaski Co. and we’ve had good rains over the last few weeks and still I have dead spots in my yard. I can’t figure it out either.
Could be numerous things. Cool season grasses, lack of nitrogen, pets…etc. I know my neighbors yard has it and it is most likely due to the use of a lawn care company. The over use of fertilizers causes the pH to drop and kills the grass. If you keep having problems go to your counties extension office and get a soil test. Make sure you samples both the good and bad spots so you can compare numbers.
Is central KY out of the rain threat or will it be widespread? 🙂
I think the problem with the lawns is the fact that we had next to no rain through April and got it all over 1 weekend in May. It got dry again and we are getting it all at once again.
I found this blog much informative for me…
