Good Monday evening gang. Severe thunderstorms are rolling across central and eastern Kentucky this evening and are packing one heck of a punch. Damaging winds are causing all kinds of issues throughout the area. We have a report of 3 people injured after high winds knocked down a tent at the Bluegrass Fair at Masterson Station Park in Lexington. I will have more information on that as I get it.
The storms are packing winds in excess of 60mph as they move into eastern Kentucky. AMAZINGLY…. there is NO watch out from the storm prediction center as they continue to be beyond horrible for this area. In addition to the damaging wind threat… the potential for flooding rains is HIGH so keep a close eye out.
You can also keep a close eye on the radars…
Other storms are forming to our northwest and will try to dive in here overnight. I will have rapid fire updates on twitter @Kentuckyweather . These are also in the top right hand corner of the blog.
Take care.
Wow! If these storms hold together till they reach Eastern KY, I’m going to be scared tonight. Everyone stay safe!
Thank you, Chris, for keeping us updated. You’re wonderful.
Nice coverage regarding the Lexington storm damage on The Weather Channel tonight. No watch from the SPC, no warning from Louisville NWS. Does anyone care about the Bluegrass?
Chris- as I mentioned in the previous post, I was out at the Bluegrass Fair when the tent came down. It was somewhat chaotic, and I was a bit disappointed in the way it was handled. I didn’t see officials do anything to either encourage people to leave, or to move into safety somewhere like the permanent structure that is there.
I think the lack of a watch may have played into it, and also feel like the warning was a little delayed. It came several minutes AFTER the gusts that knocked down the tents.
we’ve had impressive storms here in southern ky. as well alot of impressive lightning and very heavy rain, over 3″ at my house since yesterday…
We got 1.5 inches of rain on the farm as of this morning
