Good Sunday afternoon everyone. I wanted to drop by for a quick update on the devastating flash flooding that hit Pike County Saturday evening. Some 6 inches of rain fell in just a short amount of time across parts of Pike County. As of now… two people are confirmed dead with several others still missing.
Search and rescue efforts continue today in Pike county and officials have opened several shelters for those displaced by the flooding….
Pikeville United Methodist Church
Pike County Central High School
Pikeville Homeless Shelter
Cedar Bottom Church in Kimper
Eastern Kentucky Expo Center in Pikeville
To get a full grasp of the depth of the flooding… take a look at these pics of the destruction left behind…
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Pike County as they deal with this tragedy.
As far as the weather goes today… scattered storms will continue to go up and some could become strong or severe weather more flooding rains possible. I will have updates as needed.
Take care.
The bad thing about the SPC not putting out watches or warnings when they should is that our tax money goes to these agencies. But with that said, knowing how bad they are I personally don’t rely on them too much anyways. I use some common sense by looking at the radar and by checking out my place for all things weather right here at kyweathercenter.com
I feel so bad for the people of Pike County today. God bless them all. As for the weather, that line moving into KY must be hitting a force field or something because it is dissipating rather quickly.
How awful! It looks like a tornado ripped through the area! Those families are in my prayers.
Rhonda, they are in my prayers too.
Wow. Read the latest aviation discussion from LMK. Then go look at radar. Wow, just wow. When you blow a forecast that bad, you should at least reissue a new forecast.
Wow! Unless those storms die down before they get here, we’re in for a bad one tonight. It might be a good night to stay up late.
Wow, just wow! (LOL)…..I agree
Looks like an MCS complex is forming.
Yep. Very heavy rain and frequent lightning are the two biggest concerns here where I live at the moment.
Interesting to watch.
I wonder why it’s developing so far south of the front?
