Good Sunday everyone. Our weekend has been very active so far in terms of severe weather and flash flooding. Granted… it has been scattered… but where the storms hit… they leave a serious mark. It is looking more and more likely that we will be seeing more of the same today and into the first half of the new work week.
The hardest hit areas Saturday were in Shelby, Lawrence and Pike counties. All of these counties were hard hit by damaging winds that knocked down trees and power lines. Pike county appears to have received a double whammy as rainfall totals approaching 6 inches caused devastating flash floods. Things were so bad that a Local Emergency was declared late Saturday evening.
Given what the atmosphere did Saturday and how we can see similar storms today… the threat for localized flash flooding will be fairly high. Not only that… but the threat will be there for more damaging wind producing thunderstorms. Track the action here…
I have been all over the Storm Prediction Center this spring and summer because they have had a tough go at it around here…. it has been pretty bad. But… they are the ones who issue the “official” severe weather watches so I thought I would show the map with their latest thoughts on where the severe weather will be…
I do want to stress that not everyone will get in on the action today… but where you get it… you will really get it. The storms should become more widespread in the coming days… and this will also lead to the threat for some strong or severe storms and flooding rains.
I will have updates as needed today so check back . Have a great Sunday and take care.
Wow, I was just reading about all the flooding on Facebook (WYMT). This is a terrible situation. God be with all those people.
3 fatalities in KY so far from these storms. Hopefully that won’t increase today. With that massive MCS bearing down on the Ohio River valley right now…it will likely spark more convection across KY today. Keep your eyes peeled if you are outside today.
Looks like a decent complex headed Kentucky’s way right now.
and there goes the SPC flipping and flopping around was in slight risk last night for today and this morning they removed now its back

Kudos to WYMT for keeping us updated on Facebook. They are giving reports as they get them. I feel so sorry for the people who are trapped inside and on top of the old Sycamore School Building.
A firefighter was down too. The building is burning.
That’s some intense band that is moving into W KY right now.
