Good Sunday everyone. Our weekend has been very active so far in terms of severe weather and flash flooding. Granted… it has been scattered… but where the storms hit… they leave a serious mark. It is looking more and more likely that we will be seeing more of the same today and into the first half of the new work week.

The hardest hit areas Saturday were in Shelby, Lawrence and Pike counties. All of these counties were hard hit by damaging winds that knocked down trees and power lines. Pike county appears to have received a double whammy as rainfall totals approaching 6 inches caused devastating flash floods. Things were so bad that a Local Emergency was declared late Saturday evening.

Given what the atmosphere did Saturday and how we can see similar storms today… the threat for localized flash flooding will be fairly high. Not only that… but the threat will be there for more damaging wind producing thunderstorms. Track the action here…

I have been all over the Storm Prediction Center this spring and summer because they have had a tough go at it around here…. it has been pretty bad. But… they are the ones who issue the “official” severe weather watches so I thought I would show the map with their latest thoughts on where the severe weather will be…

SPC Products Overview

I do want to stress that not everyone will get in on the action today… but where you get it… you will really get it. The storms should become more widespread in the coming days… and this will also lead to the threat for some strong or severe storms and flooding rains.

I will have updates as needed today so check back . Have a great Sunday and take care.
