10pm Update

Good evening and Merry Christmas everyone. Evening radar trends suggest areas along and south of Interstate 64 will see the heaviest snows overnight and Christmas Morning. A general 1″-4″ will be possible in this area. Farther north… the snows will be lighter with an inch or two at best.

Roads will become snow covered overnight into Christmas Morning so be careful if you are out traveling.

The snow will taper off Christmas afternoon before widespread snow showers and squalls will develop quickly Christmas night into Sunday and Sunday night with more accumulations likely. Southeastern Ky will likely see significant totals from this.

I will have a brief update later tonight. Take care.

Previous Update

Good Friday afternoon and Merry Christmas Eve. Snow is moving into western Kentucky this afternoon and will overspread the rest of the state through the evening. It looks like we will get some bands of moderate to occasionally heavy snow that can lay down some quick accumulations.

The forecast I have out appears to be in good shape right now and I will let it ride. That and the fact I don’t have time on this busy travel day to make a new map.

A few thoughts…

– Snow will continue to develop into the evening and roads will become snow covered not long after the snow sets in where you live.

– Snowfall from Tonight through Christmas day will average 1″-4″ for the entire region.

– The strong upper level low will cause widespread snows to develop late Christmas Day and continue through Sunday into early Monday. Additional accumulations will be likely.

– Parts of eastern and southeastern Ky will get hammered by the late Christmas through Monday snows. Totals in this area will average 4″-8″ with higher amounts likely in some spots. I look for Winter Storm Warnings to be issued for several counties.
