Good Monday to one and all and thanks for blogging with us. Sunday brought a round of severe storms to parts of the region and it is looking more and more like some areas can get in on some big boomers today. A strong cold front is moving into the area today and will be the catalyst for the storms.
There is a tremendous amount of moisture available for these storms to feed upon so the threat for flash flooding is on the increase.
As of this writing… a line of strong and severe storms was racing toward the state from the northwest and will move through early this morning. This line may cause damaging winds and may also put down enough water to cause some high water problems. After this line diminishes later this morning… another line may fire up this afternoon. That should be more concentrated across the southern half of the region. You can track all the storms here…
This front will bring some much cooler and drier air in here for the middle of the week. Highs in the 70s are likely for a few days as we get into a very comfy air mass.
Tropical Storm Alex is cranking in the southern gulf and will likely become a hurricane in the coming days. This is going to be a very broad storm that has far reaching effects away from the center. Where will it go? Odds favor this heading toward south Texas and northern Mexico. The GFS and NAM models both agree on this…
GFS Thursday Night
I will have updates as needed so be sure to check back. I will also be using twitter for quick updates and you can get those by following me @Kentuckyweather . Those also appear in the top right hand corner of the blog.
Have a great Monday and take care.
Hey Chris! Thanks for all your hard work! I had a question. I have the desktop alert. I got it when you were at Kyt and it says there are two possible tornadoes in this line. Is it right?
Looks like from the weather tracking program I use that its not diminishing but rather building strength. Is this accurate? Or just a glitch in my program? I really hope Morgan Co. doesnt get the bad storms as it seems we are gonna get.
Chris, appreciate your hard work. Hold down the fort for me. I have to go to the Alabama coast for a week or so.
i just drove from hamilton county into campbell county and there has been the most incredible lightening storm i have ever seen.
Thanks, Chris. Looks like we are in for some pleasant weather for the next few days, and I am plannign to enjoy it while we have it!
We got thunder and lightning yesterday, and a few sprinkles, but the storms actually went just to our east here. I think northern parts of the county got more rain. We did get some overnight, but not much.
Thanks for keeping us up to date! Will be looking in more frequesntly today, for sure! Have a GREAT Monday, everyone!
That line looked crazy last night, but must have fizzled because I saw no rain in my part of Boyle County.
Chris wasn’t kidding about “southern half of the region”
For the second time in a week I have to grit and bear it as a squall line LITERALLY blows up a few miles after passing my hometown. It’s like the BG parkway is a magic line now. North of that, nothing. South of that, BINGO. It’s not fair!!! I hope you folks in southern KY are enjoying this.
Crab Orchard (eastern Lincoln County) got a good soaker.
the SPC now has a feed back survey!!!!!!! i think i should tell them how good their doing in ky ths year. by how good i meant awful.
After the storms of the past few days have blown up and moved on in fairly rapid fashion—this small towering thunderhead cloud nearby is an a fairly unusual position. It must have blown up right along the front. And it’s not moving very fast. 🙂
