Good Thursday everyone. We have a real life cold front that will actually be crossing the state later today. This front will bring some scattered showers and storms to much of the area. The big news with the front is it will bring some cooler and drier air in here for Friday. The bad news is that the muggy weather won’t get too far away and will move back in before the weekend is over. If you are looking for a prolonged period of non hot and humid weather… I may be able to help you out sooner rather than later.
The front today will have a dying band of showers and storms moving our way early this morning. A renewed band of boomers is likely to crank up along the front by early this afternoon. Where will the front be when it decides to fire these new storms? That’s a good question and I would not be surprised to see a “jump” zone somewhere across the area that gets shut out from today’s rains.
Wherever the storms decide to develop… you can follow their progress here…
Can we get a few storms to go strong or severe today? That is possible… especially across the south. Here is the latest map from the Storm Prediction Center…
Temps today will be cooler because of cloud and the scattered showers and storms. Highs will range from the mid to upper 80s in most areas. Friday continues to look like a winner of a weather day with temps only in the middle 80s with lower humidity levels.
Temps will work back up closer to 90 this weekend as the humidity levels increase! With the increase in humidity will come a risk for some scattered storms… especially later Sunday and Monday. All indications are for a huge cool shot to engulf much of the eastern half of the country by the middle of next week. That may bring an impressive cool down for a lot of people as the heat heads west for a while.
All eyes will also be shifting toward the Gulf of Mexico this weekend and early next week to see if a system in the Caribbean can develop into a named storm. Several of the models are very impressed with this as it crosses into the Gulf. The NAM is showing this very well by Sunday…
I will have updates today as needed so check back. Have a good one and take care.
If this storm develops in Gulf what will it do for the oil spill..
I think a storm in the gulf is the absolute worst thing that could happen. The currents and wind will spread the oil over a much wider area and push it further into the coastal areas. They would also have to stop operations to stop the oil flow until the storm passes which means oil will be gushing uncontrolled for who knows how long. I fear things will never be the same along the gulf coast again. People need to realize that possibility. makes me very sad.
Front is upon the Ohio River now. Radar is quiet. Storms are very questionable right now.
A hurricane in the Gulf and it’s impact on the oil slick has been my concern for a while now. NOAA says don’t worry about it. I say if a big storm takes the right path, oil could be spread inland and that is not good.
Hot, muggy wind blowing. Feels kinda like a Florida morning.l
I agree, I was thinking the same thing this morning..feels just like Florida tropical weather… Lets hope some storms can put a dent in the heat today…
If nothing else any tropical system will delay efforts to stop the outflow of oil from the sea floor along with ongoing cleanup efforts…and that isn’t good either.
Good day to all! Thanks for the update, Chris! Some cooler weather next week sounds really good! Let’s hope it cools off some for the long Fourth of July weekend.
Tim, I am with you! I hope we can get some rain and a storm or two to put a dent (although maybe temporary) in the heat today. It has certainly been oppressive, for sure! (That is my $10 dollar word for the week!;) )
