Good Wednesday to one and all. It has been rather hot and humid across the state over the past several days… but it’s been nothing really out of the ordinary. Today is likely to be the hottest of the bunch as temps reach the low and maybe middle 90s for a lot of the region. Western Kentucky can reach the upper 90s in aΒ few spots.
Combine the humidity levels with the actual air temp and you can get a heat index value to top 100 degrees in a few spots.
I have the real time temp sites from across the state for your temp tracking pleasures… if you are into that kind of thing.

The threat it there for some scattered storms to go up… mainly across the north and east. If they do you will find them here…
A cold front will drop into the area Thursday and should bring a line of showers and storms with it. Some of these could be on the strong side. You can see the action showing up here on the NAM for Thursday afternoon…
Highs will come down several degrees with mid and upper 80s likely for Thursday. Slightly cooler and drier air will be with us for Friday as the sun returns. Highs will likely be in the middle 80s for a lot of areas.
The heat and humidity will surge back in for the weekend as temps warm toward the upper 80s and low 90s for highs. A couple of scattered storms could pop up as well.
Looking into next week… the pattern looks to become cooler and wetter as a trough digs into the eastern part of the country. This will send the heat back into the west.Β A wild card will be the tropics and a possible system across the Gulf of Mexico that may develop this weekend or next week.
Have a great Wednesday andΒ stay cool.
Take care.
Thanks Chris
About the moderation, I didn’t use any words that I thought would be objectionable by the system. It’s funny why some posts that get moderated “show up” later while others remain in never never land. I don’t get that. Oh well.
Bring on the cooler weather next week! We’ve had plenty of rain here in Bourbon County so I think we’ve missed the real heat, but it’s been very calm between the rain and the lack of wind makes it very uncomfortable. Hopefully today will have a bit of a breeze. Our horses will appreciate it.
Char, if you’re out there, I tried to agree with your post about taking care of pets but my PC locked up on me. We have seven dogs and three of them are too big to stay inside with the poodles. I shave down the big dogs, put out wading pools and set up fans for them in the garage. And yet, I still worry. π
wetter and cooler sounds good to me as well…it was down right oppressive yesterday down here, the heat index was 113* in middlesboro yesterday!!!…:( I say send that mess back to the desert south west… π
There is no question that it was oppressive yesterday. TOO HOT and HUMID! But 113 at Middlesboro yesterday…I think not. When this happened at that station last year, TG was quick to catch the error and dismiss it. Kari didn’t seem to notice yesterday that all the other surrounding stations were WAY cooler. Oops.

Check out the station in Hopkinsville. Are you kidding me? That’s going to register WAY hotter than it should.
Isn’t this oppressive weather more typical for July? It’s hotter here right now than it is back home in FL!!
Eastern KY is about to get a very good coverage of isolated to scattered storms this afternoon! They are developing as I type this! Lucky dogs!
Storms popping up over here in EKY. I live in Pikeville and the cumulus cloud coverage is increasing faster than ever! I hope we get a good drencher out of this because this heat is unbearable!!!
92* here in knox co. with a heat index of 98* and I don’t know about you all but I don’t like it… give me 70’s and 80’s with LOW TO NO humidity…this is just ridiculous… OH BUT GOOD NEWS!!!! only 181 days til the first day of Winter!!!…LOL… π
No kidding, I HATE this weather. So much yard/farm work to be done and I just can’t hardly stand to go out and do it.. five minutes out my clothes are soaking wet. Wake me up in September!
I hate to complain about the heat because I comlpain so much about this past winter. It is HOT!!!! and that is all I am gonna say about it!
Did anybody feel the earthquake centered in Ontario? I did not from downtown Cincinnati.
Finally hit 90* at CVG for the 1st time in 2010 today. Currently sitting at 90* with a dewpoint of 74*. That is oppressive.
WE hit 95 at the house yesterday, here in Somerset. Now that is NOT the “official” temperature, but it was the official one at MY house! Today, we are sitting at 93, and the humidity is off the charts! Can you say OPPRESSIVE? π HOpe some of those showers and t-showers get us tomorrow. Would be nice indeed!
Stay cool and watch out for your animals, too, people. Char ws right on! thanks, Chris, for the update.
Question…did you say a possible tropical system? Hope it brings us some relief from the heat. IT is WAAAAY too Hot for now!
Funny how Bluegrass apt and the Ky mesonet in Lexington are the same temp, but other days they are several degrees off from each other.
This is exactly what I said and it got moderated:
“Funny how the ky mesonet at Lex and the Lex apt are the same temperature, but other days they are several degrees off.”
You can’t say things like that on here!!!
Filthy. Filthy.
Felt the earthquake in Morehead today.
Thanks for such informative article…
keep posting more such articles…
These hot seasons gonna kill us one day.It is declared that if the temperature of the earth rises at lease 3 degrees then whole ice lands will start to melt
I’ve got to write something like this text on my website and this gave me nice idea. Thanks!
