A line of damaging wind producing storms will roll east over the next several hours. Gusts to 80mph will be possible with this line. Other severe storms are developing well ahead of the line and these may also bring wind damage to some areas.
The FLASH FLOOD THREAT is very high tonight so stay alert. I am using Twitter to spit out the latest warnings so follow me there… @Kentuckyweather. Those updates are also located in the top right corner of this blog.
PREVIOUS UPDATE
Good evening everyone. This Tuesday evening is going to be a VERY active weather evening across the state. A line of damaging wind producing thunderstorms is rolling eastward across western Ky and will rapidly move into central and eastern Ky late this evening and overnight.
Because of this… a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH is now out for much of central Kentucky. Here is a look at the counties…
Here is a look at the current warnings…
In addition to the line of storms… other boomers are going up in central and eastern Ky. These can also go severe and put down torrential rains that can lead to flash flooding. Here are your storm tracking radars…
As far as the line of storms goes… this can bring wind gusts to 80mph in the strongest cells so it may be a good time to take care of any loose objects around your house.
I will have more updates as needed so check back. Rapid updates from me will come from my Twitter feed which you can follow @Kentuckyweather. These updates also show up in the top right hand corner of the blog.
Help us out by posting updates on the weather where you live. Take care.
Got .6″ of rain out of the storm that just past over near the Clark / Fayette on US 60…. Sun out now and warming back up
Looks like today is the last day for T storms chances until Saturday. I wouldn’t have guessed that.
Can you imagine being at Kings Island or Carowinds on a day like today. I’ve been there and done that. Never again! Miserable….I don’t see how the road crews can stand it
yeah it sucks being on blacktop when its this warm and humid
Here is a new a very neat tool for KU customers. It is an outage map for the state with estimated restoration times and numbers of customers without power. hope the link works.

Only 0.04 here in the western edge of Winchester. Basically just had a lot of thunder and lightning.
now thats useful info π
The southern edge of the line is packing 90 mph winds. Will darkness quell that?
It looks like they are sort of losing intensity…But how??? It’s very unstable.
Anyone know if the line of storms in W. Ky. is expected to hold together and make it to Eastern Ky.?
awesome. now everyone- bookmark that on a mobile device before your power goes out. π
It’s the ‘Jefferson County Effect’- the storms want to be big, but the County won’t let them ;)It is odd that the severe line seems to split into a north/south component as it nears the river/Jeff line.
I don’t know how much intensity its losing, but I see what you mean. Look at the latest warnings though:

reports of trees down in roadways in Louisville
This squall line moving into NW Kentucky has done a fair amount of damage in Indiana from what I am hearing…
Monitoring the situation from my perch in Cold Spring. Expecting the Wx radio to sound any minute now… π
well, i now consider the “snow dome” the “storm dome”
I can see an outflow boundary just to the east of that mavaricky line of storms!!!
I can see it from my porch!!!
Storms are weakening. Just like First Dude!!!
Actually, it didn’t break up over Jeff co…..It looks like it split between E town and Madisonville.
It looks like it’s trying to redevelop somewhat west of Lex.
Storms just passed L’ville and I can already see the storm tops and lightning in Winchester. Going to be a fun night π
Looks like they aren’t weakening any more.
Hmmm…I disagree. Rewind on that and I’m sure you’ll see that the squall began to break up around the Knobs and was greatly diminished prior to its arrival in Louisville.
Severe storm now in Bardstown-you could definitly see that front coming, but the clouds had a very pinkish cast to them as they got nearly over my house. Not a great amt of wind, no hail, but it’s raining pretty torrentially!
Looks like Lex is going to get it pretty good. Worst looks to be heading here. I=64 is blocked at several places in Loserville due to downed trees.
alls quiet in Southern Morgan Co. atm, although we had torrential rain and some wild thunder and lightning earlier. No hail here, but reports about 5 miles away of about 3 to 3.5 inches of rain in about 45 minutes to an hour.
with the NOAA weather radar in motion, it looks like the line went below severe criteria west of Lex. It also looks like when that line passes, it will be it other than some light rain, unless more redevelopment happens.
Just started pouring here in NW LEX.
Figure the neighborhood’s developer just filled the ravine behind my house with fresh dirt and put down seed and straw. The recent rains are washing it all away and clogging the drain pipes… this should get interesting.
LOL, here comes the Louisville haters. Can I bash your hometown, wherever that maybe? How about sticking to the weather instead of some stupid reference which is probably from the UK-UofL rivalry.
What are you talking about? That made no sense??
