Good Monday everyone and welcome to a new work week. While the week may be new… the weather is going to be anything but new as the same old pattern rolls on. This means very warm and humid air with rounds of thunderstorms that will be on the move over the next few days.
The atmosphere remains super charged in that any storm that goes up will have a ton of juice to tap into leading to torrential rains that can lead to flooding problems. There is a Flash Flood Watch for northeastern Kentucky… kudos to the NWS in Charleston on that call as I suspect flash flooding will be an issue… at least on a local scale… through Tuesday. Parts of my TV area were hammered by flash flooding Saturday night and that made for a long night of work for your friendly weather dude since I had to go in to the station.
Storms that rolled across the region last night will likely leave a few outflow boundaries around for storms today to focus on. Thus… I expect better coverage than what we had Sunday. As a matter of fact… clusters of storms are likely to form today into this evening. Get these to roll across the same areas and boom… you get high water.
Track it all here…
In addition to the flooding threat… some of the storms may go severe today into this evening. Here is the latest from the Storm Prediction Center…
The next map shows where the SPC is monitoring for possible watches…
Tuesday will feature more of the same… hot and humid weather with round of storms… some of which could be severe. Temps the next few days outside of storms will be toasty to say the least. Highs will flirt with 90 if you get sun outside your house. With high humidity levels… it will feel even hotter than that!
Speaking of hot and humid… later this week into the weekend can get downright HOT! We have a shot to soar into the lower and middle 90s if everything works out just right. Humidity levels will be way up as well and this could spell triple digit feel like temps for a whole lot of folks.
I will have updates as needed so check back. Take care.
How high were those cloud tops last night? I was outside around 9:30 and the sky was crystal clear but there were flashes of lightning visible and the storms were still in Indiana. The complex got to Bourbon County around 12:30 and we got just shy of 3 inches in my rain gauge, which is broken so I don’t really know how much rain fell. It came down hard and a road just to my north is the headline of the local news due to a huge tree falling. Stay safe, everybody!
Storm coming through Frankfort at 8:00 this morning is a stout one! Looking forward the possibility of a MCS this evening. The one last night was awesome.
I’ll trade my middle 90’s and triple digit heat index for someones scattered showers…any takers??..lol… thats just down right to hot for this ole boy..
Bring it!
This is what I get for washing & waxing a black truck.
Storming in Lexington.
No, what usually happens to black trucks is that a flock of birds will find it as soon as you get it dry.
Looks like you’re getting it bad.
on the satelite image there appears to be an outflow boundery coming into southern IN. man, things will likely get going good later on.

What would be great is a good old fashioned derecho like the one we had this exact time of year 5 years ago. But..it won’t happen. 🙁
the nws in louisville said an mcs is possible later this afternoon and will likely move into our area
Yea, Michael…when it’s good -n- clean is usually when the birds show interest in buying it by leaving a ‘deposit’… 😉
I thought the derecho was in June ’04…pretty sure of the date because it was the summer before my Mom was diagnosed w/ terminal cancer…we lost our electricity & our cable TV here in Bardstown for about 4 days, everyone was selling out of ice, etc…
Pretty sure what WXman is thinking about is the event from July 13, 2004 which the NWS in Louisville ranked the #9 most significant weather event of the 2000’s in their Area of Responsibility:

Looks like its shaping up to be a fairly interesting afternoon!
is anyone other than me noticing that the line in IL uis trengthening and moving towards us?????
I just got online and that radar looks nasty!!!
I’m watching that line in Indiana too.
Wow, it looks like it’s heading our way for sure.
Looks like another 12:00 arrival for storms in Lex. Tomorrow may see the birth of “alex” in the tropics. Not looking forward to this hurricane season with the Gulf full of lighter fluid.
