Good Monday everyone and welcome to the first full week of October. The first weekend of October got off to a cold start with record low highs and some record lows going by the wayside. The weather over the next week to ten days will be MUCH different as we head into one heck of a nice stretch of Indian Summer.
Things are going to start off on a cold enough note today as many areas will wake up to some patchy frost and temps in the 30s. Thermometers will begin their upward push this afternoon in the west as highs hit the low 70s. Central and eastern Kentucky will see low to mid 60s.
Some clouds and isolated showers will be noted across the eastern part of the state. The farther east you live, the better the chance you have of seeing some drops.
The warmer air will begin to settle in here as we head into Tuesday and beyond. While the overall pattern across North America is a blocky one, we will find ourselves positioned in between all the action for the better part of the next week to ten days or so.
The GFS shows what i’m talking about…
What does that mean for us? How about an extended period of dry weather and highs in the 70s to near 80. That pattern should carry us into the middle of next week before we start to see some changes. A pattern like this is perfect for enjoying the gorgeous fall colors that are starting to show up.
While we will be enjoying a string of amazing fall weather… I am already targeting late October into early November for a major pattern change toward cold. Could there be some early season fun and games?
October is a good month to follow along with the snow cover across the northern hemisphere. The theory is, the greater the snowpack the colder the winter may be. Well… October is off and running with above normal snow cover…
Speaking of snow… check out this great video from the weekend at Snowshoe Mountain, West Virginia.
Have a great Monday and take care.

I agree. I think all of LMK and JKL will get the big one this year. and not just a big one, but a HUGE one. I have a gut feeling on that.
