Good Thursday everyone adn thanks a bunch for dropping by the blog. We are having the nicest weather day we have had in a long, long time. But.. just my Cats fab freshman from this past season… it’s one and done. Our attention will quickly turn to the potential for more heavy rains starting later tonight and lasting into the weekend.
Before we get into the bad part of the forecast.. let’s talk a little bit about the good. Granted there is only a very little bit to talk about… but we will enjoy it none the less. Today will feature partly sunny skies after the morning fog burns off. Temps will warm into the 70s for high temps. You will notice some late day clouds moving in from the west as low pressure slowly moves our way.
The western half of the state will see some showers and storms moving in before the day is over and these may push into central Kentucky during the evening hours. You can track the progress of the rains here…
Showers and storms will then steadily increase overnight into Friday. This system will have a lot of moisture to work with so we really must watch for the potential for heavy rains that could lead to more flash flooding. Rainfall amounts of 1″-3″ will be possible across most of the region through the weekend. Locally higher amounts will be possible for areas getting in on repeat thunderstorm actions. I would imagine Flash Flood Watches would be coming before the day is over.
Here is how the NAM looks in relation to the heavy rain threat…
Friday Morning
Friday Afternoon
Saturday Afternoon
The ground is full of water and simply cannot hold much more and this system has a ton of juice to work with and that is not a good combination to have! This is something to keep a very close eye on over the next few days and the blog will have updates as needed.
In addition to the heavy rain threat… the potential is also there for a few strong storms Friday and Saturday.
Beyond this weekend… next week will get very warm and humid with an almost daily threat for afternoon thunderstorms.
Speaking of thunderstorms… parts of Oklahoma were hammered once again last night as tornadoes and severe weather rolled across the state that has been the severe weather bullseye over the past few weeks. Oklahoma City had a round of storms this past weekend that produced baseball sized hail. Here is some AMAZING video of what that looked like…
That is honestly some of the most incredible weather video I have seen in a long, long time. WOW!
I will update things as needed today so check back. Have a great Thursday and take care.
if your looking for a great deal on a hail damaged car, head to where that video was shot!!!…wow!!…thats insane..
Wow Chris! That hail video! You’re right about the car damage Tim, but I don’t think I’d want one after that!
We had a storm like that about 7 or 8 years ago in Pulaski county, I have some pics somewhere was as big as baseballs and the sound was the worst part, had to replace the roof and windows and lost one car. The yard was dimpled so bad after the storm it looked like the surface of a golf ball.
My parents live in London…that same storm tore up 2 cars, their roof, the awning of their camper, scared my mom half to death My dad kept on of those baseball size hail balls for a long time. He said that no one would believe him.
check this out!!!! Freak snowstorm 1894, lex. ky. 6″ on this date!!!

Wow! if it hailed that hard here, I’d be terrified!
And I’m glad we don’t have six inches of snow today.
