Good Wednesday. Our round of strong thunderstorms and torrential rains is now rolling across northern Kentucky and is causing some problems. Flash Flood Warnings are out for much of this area and some of the storms have been severe. This line is slowing sinking southward as individual storms move northeast.
The Storm Prediction Center may put out a watch soon for much of central and eastern Kentucky. While the severe threat is there… the greatest threat may be from torrential rains that can produce flash flooding. Up to 4″ of rain will be possible in some areas and that will be more than enough to cause high water issues.
Here are some radars for you to track the storms…
Here is the latest from the SPC…
You can also follow some of the rain totals for the day through Kentucky Mesonet…
Please help us out by posting the weather where you live. I will have more updates as needed and will be using Twitter to send out rapid updates so sign up to follow meĀ @Kentuckyweather .
Take care.
Yuck…
Good update, Chris.
As of this writing, the Mesonet precip totals are interesting with the northernmost 6 sites reporting at least about 1 inch of rain but almost nothing has fallen anywhere else in the state.
Thanks for the timely update Chris. Looks like Lexington may get nipped in a little while.
Frequent lightning and thunder on UK campus
We got 4/10″ out of that line here in NW LEX.
Not a drop yet in northern Estill County– though it has been quite dark and I have heard distant thunder. That’s the ground truth!
It is raining, thunder and lightening in Bath County. Looks like night out there. I’m getting about every other word on tv satellite because of the storm.
Very heavy rain this morning in Maysville along with damaging lightning. Flash flooding in some areas of Mason County. Rain has just about come to an end now around 1 p.m.
It doesn’t want to quit, getting round 2 now, but no lightning this time.
I guestimated about that much as well. I guess you got a new rain gauge? I can’t believe someone would steal a rain gauge of all things.
Everything that’s not tied down over here gets stolen. Was a nice neighborhood until they connected us that other one (Marehaven?) Now we have theft, vandalism… houses being spray painted with graffiti, etc. We’re looking to move soon.
Ended up with 1/2″ of rain almost exactly here in NW LEX.
ended up with zilch
Nothing going on in Pikeville wonder if we will get in on the action later? I cant believe how people steal things,I have one worse then that my moms flowers and my dads brass foot marker off their graves.
Hardly a drop all day here in Southern Jessamine County. Just enough to wet the pavement around 1pm. No other activity so far….Think it will stay dry tonight and tomorrow here.
we got hit hard from around 11:30 until 12:30 today here in Russell. The lightening is the worst i have seen in a long. We had at least 6 or 7 strikes that hit on school grounds. My husband was at his desk and lightening hit his office it destroyed his computer and the force of it lifted him up out of his chair abt 5 or 6 inches and he is 6ft and close to 200lbs. I am just so thankful that no one was hurt. It was a wild hour at work/school.
Too bad……I’m on second entrance of McConnell’s Trace. I haven’t seen anything like that over here. Houses spray painted? That’s pretty bad
Yeah, along the trail in the back.
You and me both!
Will explode if the reactor in Japan?
