Good Monday to one and all. This was one amazing and devestating weather weekend across the state as a major flood event hit the region. The flooding is carrying over today in many areas… even as the rains have finally moved east. They are leaving behind a scene that words cannot describe in many cases. I won’t even attempt to do that and just say that our thoughts and prayers are with those who are suffering right now.
Rainfall totals of 6″-10″ were common across the region this weekend. Thousands of roads were literally flooded at one point or another. Homes and businesses in many towns were under water at some point or another.
The heaviest rains are now long gone and we will only be left with a shower or two today. Here is a quick look ahead..
– Temps will surge over the next few days and will be well into the 80s again for the middle and end of the week.
– A strong cold front will head in by later Friday or early Saturday. This may produce a round of severe weather along and ahead of it and that is something we will watch for.
– A fairly sharp temp drop will move in behind the front as temps go well below normal for a few days.
That’s all I have for now. I will get you guys a full post on later today. Thanks so much for all the reports from the weekend and for all you guys do for the blog… I appreciate it more than you know.
Take care.
We had seven inches in my part of Bourbon County. My husband was not able to get back home due to water over all the roads leading to our house. He had to stay in a hotel. Our hearts go out to everybody dealing with this flood.
I only got 2.3 inches of rain at my house over the weekend so i am thankful it wasn’t anymore than that
Finished with 7.20″ of rain over the weekend in Anderson County.
The KY River is projected to crest around 39 feet here..which would be nearly equal to the devastating flood of 1989.
Got about 9 inches here in my part of Pulaski County. Had to turn around twice on my way to work with 4-5 feet of water over different routes into town.
Official total for the storm was 8.03″ (as reported to NWS and CoCoRaHS) with 7.21″ of that since 8AM yesterday in northern Estill Co. Many roads flooded, with some mudslides.
We got over 9 here in mypart of Pulaski County, though the ‘official’ total was just over 6 inches. Some of my co-workers are stuck at home this morning due to high water, and I will have to GO hoome, due to high water inside the house.
Still a lot of people who are hurting this morning. Please be careful out there! thanks, Chris, for all you do, and for the great heads up over the weekend.
9 inches here in waco spent the day pumping out the in-laws basement.
Got over 6 inches in the Hamburg area of Lexington over Saturday and Sunday.
I heard Bill Meck on Kruser’s radio show today. He said a high pressure ridge off the coast of the Carolinas is what kept the system from moving east yesterday. Thus, the training of storms over the same areas. He predicts that same ridge will drift west and cause us to have a very dry summer. Anybody else see that happening?
