Good Friday everyone and welcome to Hillbilly Days Weekend here in Kentucky. The annual 3 day festival is held in the city of Pikeville and is expected to draw nearly 200,000 people with the majority of the proceeds going toward Shriners Hospital for Children. You can’t ask for a better cause than that! If you are in the area today… come by and say hello to your fellow hillbilly as I will be doing my tv thing from there all day.
The weather looks great for the folks out there today as most of the state will see windy and warm weather on this Friday. Temps should rebound toward the 80 degree mark yet again as winds really crank up. Clouds will increase during the afternoon hours from north to south. An isolated shower or storm is possible during the afternoon… but most of the action will be along a front that should arrive this evening into the overnight hours.
You can track this line on regional radar…
There is not a lot of moisture for this front to work with so I am not expecting a whole lot of rainfall out of this. Still… we will take what we can get at this point.
Could this line spark a few strong storms? It is possible… but it certainly has not had a good track record of doing so over the past few days. Here is the latest from the Storm Prediction Center…
The big news for the weekend will be the MUCH cooler air that will work in here. Highs for Saturday and Sunday will struggle to get to the 60 degree mark… even with sunshine. Winds will be rather gusty during the daylight hours and will add just a hint of a chill to the air. The real chill may come by Sunday and Monday mornings as readings drop into the low and middle 30s leading to the potential for some frost.
At least the cool air gives us something different to talk about!
I will be tweeting from hillbilly days today and should have some fun pics for you guys. Make sure to sign up and follow me @Kentuckyweather . Have a great day and take care. Or should I say… Get-R-Done!
Have a goodin’ Chris! haha.
WE NEED R-A-I-N!
Thanks, Chris! Hope we can get rain, but not until later this evening. Say, aroud 7 and after. then, it can rain all night if it chooses!
Be careful what you drink out there, Bailey! Don’t git a holt of Granny’s “rheumatiz”medicine! It’ll knock yore socks off! 😉 Have a GREAT Friday, everyone!
And yes, John austin, I agree….we NEED rain!
Slight Risk! YAY! It’s not a Moderate, but we’ll take it.

It’s the 12th anniversary. We rolled camera on this storm as it caused 512 million in damage in Bowling Green.
Severe T’storm Watch now out for portions of northern and northeastern KY.

What’s the difference in Pikeville between this weekend and any other day of the year?
The wind is howling here. Don’t know if that’s a sign we’re going to get storms later, but we could really use the rain.
The wind is blowing dust all over the place. That line of storms does not look too promising to me. Maybe we’ll get another 2/10ths of an inch of rain, which is what we got eight days ago.
Can somebody give me some hope that this dry pattern, which began sometime in February for my area, will not last all summer?
These storms just popped up…there’s still time for them to possibly merge into a line later. We’ll see..and keep our fingers crossed for rain!
And how would you know how Pikeville is any other day? Have you ever been there? You must not have other wise you would know that its a very nice place with hard working, kind people. My apologies to everyone else on the blog. I know this is a weather blog but I felt that I needed to defend my hometown against people like this who only believe the stereotypes.
We seem to get this exact post from someone each time this year.

I HATE Hillbillies.
Good pic, Chris. I LOVE HILLBILLIES! We’ve got our 21 month old grandson saying, “GIT ‘ER DONE!”
Then you must hate Chris because he said on the news he was a hillbilly.
