Good Good Friday everyone and thanks for dropping by the blog. Our holiday weekend is starting off on a VERY warm note. As a matter of fact… temps heading well into the 80s on the second day of April qualifies as hot in my book! While the “heat” will take a small break this weekend… it is likely to return into early next week.
Today is a holiday of another sorts as it marks the opening of the spring meet out at Keeneland and I would bet there have not been many, if any, that featured warmer temps.
Sunny skies and a strong southwesterly wind today will boost temps to near record levels in many areas. Low to mid 80s are likely once again with a few areas trying to climb into the upper 80s. Wow!
Track today’s “heat” here…

Today’s Highs
The rest of the forecast looks like this…
A cold front will work into the area Saturday. Radar will be lighting up with an impressive band of showers and thunderstorms rumbling into western Kentucky late tonight and early Saturday. This line will weaken out big time as it works eastward through the day with only a broken line of showers making the journey through the rest of the area. Even that will be VERY narrow and basically diminish during the evening hours.. Winds will be gusty once again on Saturday and temps will remain mild with the warmest readings the farther east you live.
Easter Sunday will be GREAT! Highs will likely warm into the lower 70s for much of the region under partly to mostly sunny skies.
Warm air should surge back in here by Monday with readings likely going back into the 80s into the middle of the week. This happens as a fairly potent cold front heads into the plains states by mid week. The setup for the middle of next week says the chance is there for a decent severe weather outbreak out there and is something we will have to watch for. You can see the look of the pattern for next Wednesday here on the European Model…
There you have it… a forecast that is basically from the middle of June instead of the first of April. Have fun out in the sun and take care.
Thanks Chris! I’ll take the heat! Even a few thuder boomers! I’m off work for three days, so I’ll take whatever comes!

I thought the same thing but I didn’t dare to say anything….:)
Anyway….So u agree with what he’s saying? I mean, based on what Chris said, this weekend, we’ll be lucky to get the dying storms, and the middle of next week, the plains will be getting severe weather, right? Not us? Are u still going to be under that massive high again?

I thought the same thing…..
Anyway…..so this storm will die when it gets here sat so little rain if any/ then by middle next week, another storm is going to be in the plains?? Is the same thing projected to happen…hitting dry air and dying. I can’t take another DRY/HOT BORING summer weather wise…..
enjoy the sun and 80’s, but watch out for some major sun burns…OUCH!!
Bring on the severe. Hardcore.
So what’s gonna make the storms fizzle out? I’m worried we’re getting into a dry pattern and that’s not good for early spring and planting season.
I think the NWS forecast highs are a tad low today. 83 here…and it’s already 75 right now.
The storms will fizzle because there is a stronge ridge planted across the eastern U.S. and ridges are very tough to move. I too am concerned about the possibility that it could go dry but it is far too early to make that call right now.
Chris, next week does look good for a decent thunderstorm outbreak (which we havent had in a very long time) but we are going to have to get the dewpoints up to get any action.
you can keep them
I had to work on the A/C in my Buick today… it was warm enough that I found out it didn’t work!
Awesome day.
the gulf of mexico will have to warm up and open for us to get any severe wearther this year. but all i have to say is bring it on!!!!!!!!!
