Good Thursday everyone and welcome to a summer preview and that ain’t no foolin’! This is going to be some amazing weather to start out the month of April as readings over the next few days are going to be more typical for the middle and end of June! All of this carries us into the upcoming Easter holiday weekend.
Temps over the next few days will soar into the low and middle 80s leading to the warmest start to April since 1986… thats a span of 24 years if you are playing along at home. As can see… such a shot of warmth isn’t all that common for this time of year. As a matter of fact… a few record highs may be set before all is set and done.
How do the numbers look? Here ya go…
– Mostly sunny skies and southwesterly winds will boost temps toward the upper 70s and low 80s today.
– Friday should be the warmest of the bunch as highs may surge all the way into the middle 80s as southwest winds crank up a bit more.
– A cold front will move our way later in the day Saturday into Saturday evening. This will have an impressive line of showers and storms with it as it moves into western Kentucky. This line will weaken out the farther east it moves. You can see what I am talking about here on the GFS…
Saturday Afternoon
Saturday Evening
That will set us up for a windy and cooler (but still mild) Easter Sunday. Highs will come down to around 70 in most areas under partly sunny skies. Overall… not bad at all.
Warmer air will surge in here early next week and there COULD be a shower or thunderstorm right along the nose of this warmer air. Low pressure will crank across the plains states and roll our way by the second half of next week bringing the threat for some booming thunderstorms to the region. This may also knock our temps back down closer to normal during this time.
Ok… thats all I have for you guys. Have a great day and take care.
Thank You very much Chris! I think I can handle the rain if I can have the beautiful weather first!!
thanks chris for the update. All I can say is I’m lovin it!!!
Record cold winter to record spring warmth. Extremes, extremes…
Wow. I used to worry about my accent. After watching that video that MarkLex posted a link to yesterday, I feel like a sophisticated gentleman. LOL. Holy smoke. I’m pretty country…but I’m surprised that guy can use a computer.
Wow. I just went back and took a look at that. UT fan in all likelihood.
This is a testament to that cold arctic air mass that Chris mentioned several times in February and early March.
From the National Snow & Ice Data Center (NSIDC):
“Barring an about face by nature or adjustments, it appears that for the first time since 2001, Arctic Sea ice will hit the โnormalโ line as defined by the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) for this time of year.”

I don’t think his accent was any different from anyone else’s. Interesting video though.
Don’t worry about your accent…everyone has one. I don’t worry about my accent because I’m proud to be a Kentuckian. And, Hey, whur els cud ah tawk lak th-is and spit lak a man! ๐
Seriously, just kidding here ๐
p.s. Chris, thanks for the weather updates!
Prestonsburg hit 88 today I heard. I wonder if some areas may flirt with 90 tomorrow.
Yeah, no kidding.. it was 85 on my front porch this afternoon. The sun wasn’t hitting it either so i assume it was correct.. I’m all for Spring but this is more like June! I would imagine some records will be shattered tomorrow. Hard to believe it was in the 40s three days ago..
yeah, and talk about a spread, we went from 39* this morning here in knox co. to a high of 84*…extremes,extremes…
Hey Chris, just saw a posting for a meteorologist on WKYT on their website. Who is leaving??
The Mesonet sites are spitting out some odd numbers right now.
For instance:
Breathitt County – 57*
Johnson County – 58*
Owsley County – 65*
Knott County – 76*
Morgan County – 77*
Guess the temp could depend on exactly where they set up the site, but still there is a disparity amongst sites outside the hills of Eastern Kentucky as well. Harrison County says 57* but the one by me in Campbell County says 74*.
