Good Tuesday everyone. Our back and forth weather pattern is in full swing across the region as we head into the “forth” position over the next few days with better weather moving in. But more wild swings will be with us for the next 10 days or so, but this is a pattern that is leading us into what should turn out to be a very mild April.
Today will start out with showers across eastern Kentucky and some of these will continue to mix with snow at times… especially in the higher elevations. Here is your radar to follow the showers out of the state…
Clouds will be with most areas early today before skies begin to clear out and brighten from west to east. This will mean central and western parts of the state will warm a lot more than the east. Temps will surge toward 60 in the west and struggle to 50 in the far east.
Wednesday looks GREAT as highs warm into the low and mid 60s under mainly sunny skies. The “back” part of the program moves in later Thursday into Friday as another storm rolls through here. This will bring rain in here from west to east Thursday afternoon and evening as temps stay in the mild 60s. Once the low goes by… much colder air moves in for Friday as a few showers linger. You can see it all here on the NAM…
Thursday Evening
Friday Morning
Friday looks to be on the ugly side.
Saturday looks much better as temps rebound and temps warm. It doesn’t last long though as yet ANOTHER low pressure rolls in here for late Sunday into Monday with more rains and colder air. As a matter fact… the air by early next week may be even colder than our last shot and would last into the middle of next week. This setup could bring another chance for some flakes around here and SHOULD be our last brush with Winter until November!
The shot of cold next week is the third and final one in a series of cold blasts somewhere into the central and eastern US. This helps wipe out the bitterly cold buildup of air out of Canada and replaces it with a much milder brand. You can see this on the European Model for next Monday…
Once this last shot leaves us by the end of next week… look out! Spring is going to come on strong and the first few weeks of April look to be very warm for much of the eastern half of the country. This may also wake up the snooze of a severe weather season the country is currently in.
That’s all I have for you today. Have a great Tuesday and take care.

True Spring….such a nice pair of words.
This sounds good to me. Will this cover dogwood/redbud/blackberry winter? LOL
I’m trying to find a reason why we wouldn’t have t-storms, some possibly strong, on Thursday. Can’t find any right now. Except, maybe weak instability if the clouds are thicker. I think it at least bears watching.
Thanks for the update, Chris. We have the sunshine here already, but the temps are still very chilly, even at noon time, We currently have 45 degrees here, and partly cloudy skies. The wind is blowing a bit, and that makes it feel even colder.
I tried to comment yesterday, but every time I did, I got moderated. HOpe this one goes.
Noted…
Where do you think the threat may be greatest?
Well, the only area of KY SPC has highlighted right now is the Jackson Purchase area. Paducah’s NWS area basically. So they seem to be thinking western KY is where the greatest threat will be. But with the time of day and low position being favorable for us..I think we could see some storms here in central KY too. Tomorrow we can pin it down for sure.
still one more snowstorm would be nice
Hush, Tommy! 🙂
No kidding. I was silly and thought open toed dress shoes would be fine for today. Um, no. My toes felt like they were frozen for much of the day thanks to a simple walk across a parking lot. :/
To see temps in the 50’s now with the sun shining bright, is absolutely different than earlier today.
Chris,
can you tell us what the summer looks like? I am ready to start thinking about the pool even if it is just day dreaming now.
