Good Wednesday to one and all and a big Happy Saint Patrick’s Day! Today is the day when we are all supposed to break out our green and sport it for all to see. Do people still pinch you if you don’t wear green today? I used to take pride in not wearing green when i was a young weather dude back in grade school in hopes a cute girl would have to pinch me. Even then I was an enterprising lad. haha
The luck of the Irish will be with much of the region today… but that may not be the case for everyone as mother nature may pinch a few of you with a light shower or two. I am talking to you southern Kentucky as you have the best chance of seeing a few of those. Temps today will range from the upper 50s to low 60s across the area.
The rest of the forecast gets interesting as we are likely to have one heck of a weather weekend shaping up with a little bit of everything coming our way. Here is a look at how things will play out…
The breakdown…
– Temps for Thursday and Friday will soar well into the 60s. Western Kentucky has a shot at some low 70s during this time as sunshine will reign supreme.
– Saturday should provide upper 60s and low 70s across the entire region as winds gust up and a few clouds increase during the day ahead of a big storm and pattern change.
– This system will really begin to influence our weather Saturday night into early Sunday as showers and thunderstorms race eastward across the area ahead of a cold front…
GFS Sunday Morning
Sunday will start out with temps in the 50s or even some 60s as winds crank up. Low pressure winds up across the Ohio Valley and heads into the Great Lakes. This will bring a rapid drop in temps during the day Sunday…
GFS Sunday Evening
So… this means we start Sunday with springtime showers and thunderstorms and mild temps and end it with a taste of winter coming back in. Temps will drop some 30 degrees behind this front and by Sunday night and Monday… snow showers and flurries are likely to be flying across the area…
GFS Monday Afternoon
Highs Monday may not even get out of the 30s with gusty winds making it feel even colder than that! I see the NWS in Louisville has mid and upper 50s for Monday. Hmmm…
The cold shot should be in an out with a fairly quick warmup by later Tuesday and Wednesday that would bring temps closer to normal. That is good… right? Well… it wont last as a similar system to the Sunday storm rolls in here toward the end of next week with another shot of cold and maybe some flakes. Remember… we MUST empty some of this cold air out of Canada over the next few weeks if we want a nice April!
Here is hoping the luck of the Irish finds you today… take care.

I need all the LUCK I can receive today!!! Finally today is the big day they are moving my modular home, Fingers crossed all goes well and NO RAIN!!!! its already a wet, muddy mess as it is…So i for one sure hope some of the IRISH LUCK lands in my lap today….:)
Not looking forward to the weeekend mess either, BUT..I would rather it happen now instead of in April when everything is in full bloom…
I want sunshine and I want it now!!! Okay, enough of my tantrum. So, let me get this right… it’s cloudy and gloomy all this time and then just when March Madness begins and we have all those games to watch on TV, the sun comes out. Doesn’t seem fair, but I’ll take any sunshine I can get.
Chris I am all about emptying the cold air, but the snow talk is a little optimistic.
Top of the mornin’ to ya, Chris! I like thr forecast for Thursday thru Saturday, but after that, it’s all down hill! Guess we have to get it all out of the way, though, so we can really have a springtime.
Had sun here this morning, but now we have mostly cloudy skies. Temps are fairly mild though, in the mid 50s.
Thanks for keeping us posted, and up to date! Hope ya’ll have a GREAT St. Paddy’s Day! And that the luck o’the Irish is with ya all! 😉
According to urban legend, the blackberries and dogwoods have a lot to say about our weather over the coming weeks. I personally don’t believe in this superstition, but we are a ways from consistent 60s and 70s.
Hey, really love that u added the 5-day forcast to the blog!! That was the only reason I was checking out other weather sites. Keep up the good work!! Can’t wait for Saterday and that 70 degree day!! I love cold weather and snow, but these heating bills are killing me so lets warm it up..8-)
I don’t think it’s urban legend…it’s more of a folk legend…
and we usually have redbud winter, dogwood winter, and blackberry winter.
Legend or not, it does seem to happen that way.
Should be interesting to say the least. Chris is calling 30’s monday, local boys calling 60’s…….that is a big spread!
I knew there was one I couldn’t think of (redbud).
I have only lived in Kentucky since August 2001, so this is the coldest and snowiest winter I have experienced thus far. I am ready for warmth! LOL
It would be cool to have another live chat on the blog now that winter season is almost over and the bandwith can therefore probably handle it.
I wish ya luck on movin’….
Did someone say SNOW?????
Yeah….just one more good snow & I will be satisfied. Besides, if our school district misses two more days for snow, they don’t have to go until June 11th….
I think the weather has been UNBELIEVABLY BORING these last 2 weeks. YAWN
00z nam has accumlating light snow Saturday night after highs well into the 60’s and a huge temp crash. It has happened before. Still have many model runs to go.
