Good Wednesday gang and welcome to a pattern that is looking pretty wild for a while. The overall setup for the next week will feature a mega cutoff low sitting and spinning across the region and this will give us a continued taste of spring weather the rest of this week. That will be followed up by a rather nasty period of weather from the weekend into early next week that may feature some more flakes trying to get back into the mix. I know… I am tired of that stuff too.
Tuesday saw our temps hit 70 in a lot of the area and the potential for another 70 is with us on any day that features enough breaks in the clouds this week. Scattered showers will be out there today… but there should be plenty of breaks in the clouds giving today a shot to hit that mark in a few areas. You can track today’s scattered stuff here on radar…
Low pressure will be camped out across the plains states through Friday before giving way to another low just to our east by the weekend. That low will then get pulled back west into the Ohio Valley by Sunday and Monday to give us much colder temps and one heck of an ugly stretch with more showers and even the chance for some snowflakes mixing in.
A good shot of rain will come Thursday as showers and thunderstorms increase and these may bring some locally heavy rains.
NAM Thursday Evening
The same can be said for later Friday into Friday evening and I can actually see where we try to crank a strong storm or two out of all this.
GFS Friday Evening
The setup over the next few days will produce some severe weather across the country. It is also one that would make for a major outbreak severe weather outbreak later this spring.
As mentioned… the weather this weekend into early next week will look and feel much different than the next few days. Watch the eastern low work back to the west as colder air dumbbells underneath it…
GFS Saturday Afternoon
Sunday Afternoon
Sunday Evening
You get the idea… our spring fling will be coming to an end later this weekend and early next week.
If you are a fan of severe weather and tornadoes here is a MUST SEE video from a twister that touched down in Oklahoma Monday…
I will have updates as needed so make sure you check back.
Thanks Chris! I’d see some of the footage of the Oklahoma tornado already! Amazing! I guess will have our share of severe weather here sooner than we’d like.
I’m not looking forward to the flakes either. I say if there’s cold there should be A LOT of snow or get on with the warm weather!
thanks Chris for the update..This weather is helping me out tremendously…Pouring concrete today for footers for new house…FINALLY!!..
It sure was a nice day yesterday high reached 70* and full sunshine, I even got my face sunburned, working outside all day yesterday….:)
Now I guess its back to gotham city look for a while, with cool, cloudy, dark, dreary weather….but on a possitve note, April and May are just around the corner…so summertime fun cant be too far away….
has anyone noticed how bernie hasn’t posted since his last thursday post?
Does that last map mean a few inches of snow?
Observations: 1) SPC is still watching KY closely for the possibility of severe weather this week. Keep the NOAA radios on! 2) Once the snow is gone, the 300 people who comment on this blog go with it. It’s sad.
CB the tri-state needs one more hammering b4 spring!!!
I’m ready for spring, but not tornados and certainly not any more snow.
Bernie probably hasn’t posted any more because he was criticised re: his post.
If you read this Bernie, thank you for that post and please keep posting!
Wow is right Chris on that Tornado.Bernie give us a post or shout out.Don’t kill me I am a die hard snow fan so I will take everyones snow pls mail it to me at BR549 LANE Snowless KY
Not me WxMan…severe weather season is when I start getting active.
You know me, here for the long haul!
Severe weather season is dollar for dollar more exciting than Winter! Yay! Let’s burn this place up tomorrow if we get a Watch box for KY!
I’m with you, Wxman!
This reminds me I need to get a new Weather radio. My old one crapped out over the Winter. I usually am wide awake at the slightest possibility of severe weather in Northern KY, but one never knows what can happen. We saw that the other day in Oklahoma…
I COULDN’T AGREE MORE. SEVERE WX SEASON IS A LOT MORE FUN, (UNLESS YOU RECEIVE A LOT OF DAMAGE AS A RESULT). I LOVE SITTING ON THE FRONT PORCH ROCKING CHAIR WATCHING THE LIGHTNING OFF IN THE DISTANCE AS A STORM APPROACHES. THE SMELL OF THE WET TREES AND GRASS RIGHT AFTER A STORM IS GREAT TOO… NOTHING BETTER ON A 90+ DEGREE DAY, THEN WHEN A STORM PASSES AND LOWERS THE TEMPS 25 DEGREES. FEELS GOOD! CAN’T WAIT!
18z gfs has trended warmer. No flakes in the short term it seems.
Severe weather season is hard, especially hurricane season. At least with a big snowstorm I can go back to the hotel and snuggle with my groupies. No where to do that in a hurricane.
Where have Sarah Palin and Bernie gone?
I always check the blog, I just don’t post much. I like snow more than severe weather, that’s just me.
Jim Cantore is right…no place to go. 🙂
well I for one am really enjoying these warm, sunny days..getting a WHOLE lot done as well…Got a fence up, moved a storage building, and got concrete poured today!!!….:) so I’m a happy camper …although I did find out Monday I gotta have my Gallbladder removed…:(…boy, oh boy as the ole saying goes when it rains it pours…but I’m alive and got a healthy family so I got nothing really to complain about…hope everyone is enjoying the warmer days…later all.
long haul here as well…:)
Tim, both my daughters had there Gallbladder took out the new way they do it now. I had my out back in 94 but my was the old fashion way but my daughters said it really was not that bad at all but good luck…..
Snow is harder to come by, and a lot more exciting than a thunderstorm so why wouldn’t 300 bloggers leave? lol Severe weather is a common thing in kentucky and the only thing exciting about it is getting out of the way of it. Anyone that chases it around for the fun are messed up in the head simply because of the nature of severe weather,if everyone would just get over their curiosity and be prepared and alert to be safe when severe weather hits then we wouldn’t have as many problems and fatalities, however we have a bunch of nuts like in the video that Chris posted that test the mercy of God and thats just dumb….so be safe out there everyone and use some common sense,if a tornado is coming don’t jump in the car and try to become famous on youtube because you may make the news but in a bad way
Just heard that a ef1 or ef2 tornado touched down on suburbs of Little Rock. Wondering if this stuff will effect us similarly here?
oh man amazing!Incrediblenice article, it’s impresive how people came from nothing to a huge international company [i love human potential] thanks for sharing
Great information. Thanks for the post.
Very good post.
