Good Sunday everyone and welcome to the warmest day of the entire month of February. This has been a much colder than normal temp month across the region so the weather of the past few days has been fairly mild. Today will be the mildest of the bunch as temps warm toward the low 50s. That’s not good news for the remaining snow out there and some snowmen are now on a crash diet…
It is amazing that a lot of our region has had some snow on the ground for more than 2 straight weeks now. That is highly impressive for the middle and end of February.
Where do we go from here? The breakdown goes like this…
1. Today will feature a mix of sun and clouds and temps topping out in the lower 50s. This will make for a very nice end to a pretty good weather weekend.
2. Low pressure will roll our way for Monday and bring numerous showers to the area. Winds will be gusty as well with temps in the upper 40s to low 50s.
3. Much colder air moves in here Monday night and Tuesday with some snow showers taking over.
4. The best chance to put snow on the ground next week will come Wednesday and Thursday when a system dives in from the northwest. Some very cold air for the end of February will move in during this time as well with daytime highs struggling to get out of the 20s.
5. The first week of March continues to look ripe for a big storm across the eastern half of the country. Just ask the GFS what it thinks…
March 2nd
That’s all I have for you guys today. I will update as needed so check back. Have a great Sunday and take care.

Thanks Chris for the update and thank you for always being here for us.
whats impressive down here in southern ky. is we have had 3 straight days of full sunshine, and 2 of those days have been 50 and almost 60 yesterday, and snow is still laying around…Ole timers says: that is a sign that its hanging around waiting on another one…
At this point, I hope NOT!! I for one am ready as ready can get for spring!!
thanks for the update, Chris. Glad you are getting to take a little time off for R & R. Yesterday was absolutely beautiful here. We had temps in the low 50s and today is looking pretty good as well.
I have seen big snowstorms in March..just not in a long time. We will see….also looking forward to our spring and summer thoughts, as well, as we are getting nearer that time!
Have a GREAT Sunday, all. Thanks again Chris!
Looks like all of the big potential storms keep shifting toward spring;)
My feeling KY is done with big snow chances for this winter. Most of us got at least one good snow, so at least better than last year.
no BIG DADDY WILL HAPPEN IN MARCH, IF IT DOESNT I WILL NOT POST TILL NEXT WINTER. THAT HOW CONSIFEDENT I AM AND IT WILL BE IN EASTERN AND SE KY AS THE LOW WILL THROW MOISTURE BACK OUT WAY. BE ONE OF THOSE 33-34 DEGREE BUSTER SNOW.
Same here in NW Woodford Co. Snow’s still covering most of the ground despite the sunshine and warm temps. After today, though, that may change. It’s already 53 degrees here!
better than last 12 😉 sorry i had to correct you 😛
Keeping my fingers crossed that we don’t get one.
I was going to say that too, but some got a good one in the past few years, but not one this year.
BubbaG and Andy: Did you guys notice that CB said winter isn’t over yet?
yes i was only adding to the comment that it was better than last yr this yr has been better than the last 12 that being said there was another individual on here that said winter was over 😉
What a beautiful day.52 already in Pikeville. Thanks Chris enjoy your weekend off with family.
Coffee I hope you are feeling better.
Agreed, but big snows should be more eastern events, but maybe the usual suspects could have a shot (north and far east).
I am just going by the trend, since last week we were talking about Monday and later in the week being big snow chances, but now we are talking about March. Shifting out and closer to spring. Warm air is what it is;)
Sunny and 60! Man is it nice out there.. Can’t wait till this is a regularity!
Andy, I noticed that, too. BubbaG, I know what you mean. CB never did seem too excited about the Monday storm, but he is still talking about the chances of one for the latter part of the week into March.
I think all of us are ready for spring!:)
CB is right…Winter is not over yet. Not by a long shot. We have 5 solid weeks to go in which we could have significant snow or ice storms.
But…for this weekend I’m surprised everybody is bombing with the temp. forecast so bad. The models have been forecasting too low…but even they are much higher than the forecasts I’ve seen. When you bust by 20 degrees you must not be paying attention.
63 and climbing in Lawrenceburg…
Steaks on the grill for supper!!!!
Bring on spring!!!!
A few weeks back I stated that some of the long range data was trending warmer and some would reach 60+ degrees. Well most of the snow lovers scolded me for such speech. But today it is 63 here.
Thanks for the update Chris!
I still wish we could get a snow monster storm…I’ve seen them happen in March before….on the other hand, I’ve but bulbs up in in my front garden about 2inches out of the ground!
63 and sunny in Danville. Wow, I really miss this weather. The first wagon ride for our 10 month old. He loved it. It’s the first time he’s been out in the nice weather. This weather is the best thing all year! I don’t care if I see anymore snow anytime this year!
See ya next December Rolo!!!!!!
I am so ready for spring. Days like this get ya in the mood for warm weather, BBQs, shorts, etc. Done with the snow
I want more snow – at least a good one – 8 inches or better. Not 8 then bring on spring. Anyone have any ideas about the next few systems and what they bode for us?
we scolded you because you brought up accucrack 😉 that was the only reason LOL and i apologize
Now at least you’ve got company when it comes to bombing forecasts so bad.
trending today’s low northand having mostly sunny skies instead of cloudy skies help lead to the temp bust. at noon Thursday the forecast high forecasts from the nws for today was 42 this was off by 25 degrees with a high of 67. My forecast made at that time was 8* warmer for bwg but still a big bust manily due to those factors above.
snow chance next Tuesday actually a good one with all of models on board. GFS saw this a few days ago and now it’s entering the model range of the euro, jma and cmc models which have this system as well.
Took our 2 year old out for her first wagon ride in months today as well (not her first ever, of course), but it was perfect! I went out with a long sleeved t shirt on, but got too warm, so had to just go to the short sleeves! It got to around 61-62 in Wilmore.
WSW out in Texas south of Dallas/Ft. Worth area, so looks like winter isn’t wasting anytime in coming back!
has anyone noticed the big circle around the moon tonight? What causes it?
what is causing the ring around the moon tonight?
The low this morning at my house in Nicholasville was 29f and the high today reached 64f. It is currently 51f.
Jake
Bring on the March snowstorm. lol
Just missing with you rolo
Another huge temp bust today. Surprise?
WXman, topped out somewhere around 64 just over Tyrone here in Woodford county. Forecasted highs were no where close to being right.
65 degrees! Tshirts and shorts here at the teator household… awesome. Just want we needed after that recent batch of cold and snow. Clean cars too 🙂
Are we going to get anything nasty tonight? The radar isn’t looking too pretty. Just want to make sure we aren’t looking for some storms instead of just rain.
Hope this doesn’t repeat…I don’t like moderation! Are we looking for the possibility of storms tonight? The radar looks bad and I was just expecting rain.
OMG, days like today make me want spring and summer sooooo bad. even though I would still give anything to see a foot plus blizzard here in E-SE KY.
how biga snow should se ky see middle of the week if any? thanks…:D
i want atleast nine inches : )
What a beautiful day.Its spoiled me for Spring. My sister in law is a Federal Marshall in Las Cruces NM and she loved rubbing the cold and snowy temps in here. She was in the 70s I told we are 60 LOL
Sorry bunny, cant help you with that one…….lol
It is raining hard here in Nicholasville and is rather gusty. No lightning or thunder that I have seen or heard.
Jake
