Good evening, gang. Rounds of snow showers and flurries continue to fly across the state and some light accumulations will be possible. We’re seeing temps in the 20s with wind chills in the teens. Ouch. This may be a primer for what’s to come as we head into late weekend and early next week.
My thoughts on the pattern have not changed. We get one weakening band of light snow and flurries in here Saturday night. That shouldn’t amount to a whole lot. The system behind that is the one that keeps getting my attention.
The European Model puts a thumping snow down in many areas Sunday night and Monday…
The new High Resolution GFS has a similar swath of snow, but is a bit more generous across the southeastern part of the state…
The regular run of the GFS is showing why it’s about to be terminated. It’s doing what it always does and has totally lost the storm. Don’t trust the GFS or NAM until within 48-60 hours or so.
It’s still too early for me to get specific with snowfall totals and location, but I do believe accumulating snows are likely Sunday night and Monday.
A full update comes your way tonight. Take care.
Don’t look like model thinks eastern ky not going to much snow at all
well, if you are a fan of warmer weather, then you are surely a fan of Jay Cardosi. He basically said on the news at 6, we will be recovering into the 50′s by next Thursday. He went on to ad, there are signs of a pattern change, leading to a warming trend and getting out of the cold snap.
hmmmm……I don’t like to single out MET’s. Just saying, last winter, I heard much of the same. I’m not understanding why certain Louisville MET’s are so against the grain when it comes to winter weather and reading between the lines on the long (and even short) term indicies
Keep up the great word Mr. Bailey 🙂
word and work haha
Belski (nothing against either of them); is a snow lover, so this gives WLKY balance with the viewers.
This is true….
I’ve noticed since Belski has joined WLKY, he doesn’t stray too far from the Chiefs perspective.
But, he is indeed a true snow lover.
The National Weather Service pretty much says the same thing. Upper 40’s to around 50 next Thursday.
I noticed that. I suppose they could end up being correct.
I’m not buying stock into a warming pattern taking shape a week from now, however. That arctic air and the overall pattern isn’t going to allow for prolonged warming periods, as Jay suggested was going to take place starting next wkend into Thanksgiving wkend.
Looks like the GFS 18z run puts SE KY in the sweet spot. http://meteocentre.com/models/get_accum.php?mod=gfs&run=18&type=SN&hi=000&hf=120&lang=en&map=na
Oh, and to anyone that will view this map, accumulations are in mm, not in inches. (No, SE KY will not get 10 inches of snow)
Not a fan of that map. Basically does everything it can to avoid WKY, along the Ohio. 🙁 Let’s how it’s wrong.
Troy
🙂
If se ky were to get hit like that I’d be very happy!
AKA…

Troy…old GFS is junk. CB pretty much said this.
don’t get your hopes up.
Naw, not getting my hopes up at all….still too early for any of the models to pinpoint but the new GFS is yet to prove itself any better.
it will 😉
Crisp and wonderful out this evening. I am excited about Sunday’s snow potential, but I am going to wait until the new year before I go expecting much of anything.
RIP old GFS. We’ll miss your wild winter antics. Not.
So it’s coming to that time of year where commuting by bike to work gets a bit interesting! I haven’t missed a day in nearly two years. All weather, all year, everyday. Folks the ride home a few minutes ago ran shoulder to shoulder with anything that I rode in last year! The wind chill was brutal! I’m not completely acclimated at this point but can promise you that by the end of this weekend I will be! It is COLD out there!
Those maps are millimeters and not inches? Really?? WHY?
do not know why for a fact
my guess would be that the worldwide scientific community uses the Celsius system.
I mean metric.
Last post had the most comments in a post so far this season. You see how comments start picking up when a potential system comes by. If this ends up being a brutal winter that is just like, or worse than last year, then watch CB’s readers skyrocket like they have been over the years. But especially this winter.
I’m hearing WARM pattern by late next week and into the early part of December. And the potential snow for Sunday is trending more west. I think most of KY will feature rain. Per the usual, north central KY will get in on the winter fun.
More west, add in WKY gets hit hardest? Or no one gets hit at all?
as*
Bryant, your picking up right where you left off last year and last year you couldn’t of been more wrong. Winter is not even here yet and your already acting like winter is over and it hasn’t even begun. Let’s see here most of the commonwealth today stay below freezing for daytime highs??? You kidding me? Were all running well below normal for the month seems like to me were all well ahead of schedule no complaints and there’s no blowtorch. Of course were going to warm that’s common in weather it cant stay below normal temp wise right through spring.
Thank you!
By and large, south central Kentucky and parts of east central KY got hosed in regards to snowfall. Again, north central KY is snow lovers paradise. We don’t get the old school apps runner that slugs all of east central and eastern KY. Cold weather goes hand in hand with winter, snowfall defines it.
To me, snowfall during a cold outbreak is comparable to turning over a team in football in the red zone. More often than not we come away with a goose egg, unless you live in Gods country of northern KY. Moral of story: cold weather plus cold rains=disappointing, hyped pattern. Glad to see we’re starting on the right foot again this winter lol
Bryant, why don’t you just move to north central ky so you will quit your complaining!
Where’s Blowtorch calling for an above average January already?
Sure, I’ll say and stand by it. Warmth by Thanksgiving week and holding strong throughout the balance of the Winter. Kentucky winters are like UK football, look promising in the preseason, and never fails to disappoint.
The latest NAM run shows the heaviest snow in southern Indiana. They always go north more often than not.
I think things are lining up nicely for snow lovers. Looks like areas along and north of I64 will get their first decent snowfall of the year.
