Good evening everyone and thanks for all you have done this week. We are wrapping up one heck of a weather day out there and I have to tell you… your friendly weatherdude was digging it. I wanted to drop by for some quick points about where this pattern is going.
1. Watch for black ice tonight! Temps will drop into the upper teens and low 20s which will cause some of that melted snow, otherwise known as water, to freeze up on area roads.
2. Saturday and Sunday look to feature similar temps to today with 40s now likely. There is the chance for a light shower or two.
3. The storm moving in for Monday will be wet and not white around here… at least not initially. Rain is likely from Sunday night into Monday.
4. The low will track into the Ohio Valley Monday and weaken out before giving way to another low across the east coast. Colder air will move in for Monday night and Tuesday with snow showers becoming likely. This can bring some light accumulations.
5. The track of this Monday system may actually be a good thing for snow lovers. Say what? This sets up the next storm threat to perhaps have a greater impact on the region by Wednesday and Thursday of next week. This is the threat I talked about with my last update and the models are now all going crazy with something in this time frame. Check out the 18z GFS…

Thursday Evening
Look at what a potent closed low showing up in the upper levels of the atmosphere…
Wow… that is one heck of a storm and setup and the pattern is VERY ripe for something like that to happen. As a matter of fact… that “ripe” pattern is likely into the first few weeks of March.
Anyone telling you that winter is over needs to look again before they get owned my old man winter!
I will have another update tonight so check back. Take care.

The one “weather” blessing of being from Kentucky is we get to enjoy all four seasons. A lot of people don’t. When I was stationed in Germany for two years, where I was located was basically one big giant spring/fall season. Literally.
People in Miami have hot and not so hot. People in mid to north Alaska have cold and extreme cold most of the time.
I’m looking forward to spring. But I feel one more snow and a ice chance for Lexington and Central Kentucky left.
Cats have a really tough one tomorrow. We get a little pay back for the last few trips to Nashville…..
I for one have had enough of winter, Looking forward to sunny 65 degrees and a dry yard to walk across.
ah it’s 50 in bowling green and spring is in the air the sun out the birds chirping away hopefully sunday will get to 60 here. the navy nogaps model is also very similar to the 18z gfs. The further north the mon system gets the furthern north the wed-thu event will track which means a higher chance for snow as Chris said.
Thanks for the update, Chris. What a way to end the workweek! Gorgeous!
Found out today that my mother in law is scheduled for heart surgery on Tuesday. She goes in tomorrow, so that they can monitor her blood thinner before the surgery. Please pray for her, as we do not want a repeat of what happened in January.
Chris, I hope you get a chance to sit back and enjoy the weekend, before you get busy with “the next storm.”
It certainly felt like spring today! I drove home with my windows down thinking, “man its warm, it must be close to 60!” It was in fact around 40, but man it felt warm! Nothing like a good winter where 40 is warm!
i am down in lex today was 38 and sunny when i left ft thomas, imagine we burned off alot of snow, but i am ready for more snow, winter still owes me.
Nobody has been saying winter is over…..
I apologize for winter.
Thanks Chris, for this blog. I really enjoy your pro-winter thoughts and regular updates.
I always thought that the southern storm would move north. Just remember the 18zgfs is only one run lets see if the trend continues. Old man winter does not want to go back home it appears he is requesting an extended vacation. Unfortunately, he has decided to put up base camp here in ky.
Yes, several posters and a prominent blog have made comments like that…sparked a debate.
If we think warm temps hard enough, will the snow and ice go away??
AMEN!!
Who said winter was over? Also, who has got “owned by old man winter”? All the forecasts I’ve looked at this winter have been pretty good. Yawn…

This article was extremely interesting, especially since I was searching for thoughts on this subject last week.
Great site. I like the way you explain everything without using complicated terms.
