Good Friday everyone and welcome to the weekend. If you are new to the blog you need to learn that we start the weekends a  little earlier than the rest of the world. I mean… where is the fun of calling today the last day of the work week? Regardless… today is going to turn out to be a pretty good weather day overall as the sun makes a return to all areas.

While we enjoy some nice weather today… we have our eyes on the next storm that will be impacting the region from Sunday through Tuesday. The details still have to be ironed out as it is all about that little thing called the track of the low.

This system will be developing this weekend across the southern plains and rolling toward the Ohio and Tennessee Valley areas by Monday. Ahead of this storm… we have a very weak little system that slide through here Saturday with an increase in clouds and perhaps a rain or snow shower. Not a big deal. Highs will range in the upper 30s to near 40 with the south and west going well into the 40s.

Our storm will begin to throw some overrunning moisture in here for the day on Sunday and this will likely be in liquid form. It can start out as a mix in some areas.. especially in the north where temps will be colder. The low will track toward us on Monday and the models still cannot come together on an exact track. The European is the most threatening as far as snow goes around here as it takes the low across the Ky/Tn border before turning it up the eastern slopes of the Appalachian Mountains. Even with this track… most of the daytime hours Monday would feature rain with a rapid change to snow from west to east during the afternoon and evening hours. You can see the storm track here…

Monday Evening

Tuesday Evening

That run would actually imply a pretty good snow hit for central and western Kentucky Monday afternoon and evening and for eastern parts of the state by Monday night and Tuesday morning. Again… I am not saying the model is right… just telling you what it is suggesting. That is certainly a possible option.

The Canadian Model isn’t too dissimilar but it takes the low farther north toward southern Ohio producing mostly rain for everyone with a switch to snow Monday evening into Tuesday as cold air moves back in…

We still have options on the table that have to be narrowed down and that is exactly what we will be doing this weekend so make sure you check back.

Just an FYI… the overall pattern is ripe for a major storm by the end of next week into the first week of March across the eastern half of the country.

Since it’s Friday… crank it up and have some fun…

I will have updates through the weekend so make sure you check back. Until then… keep banging on those drums because work is way overrated!

Take care.
