Good Sunday to one and all. Many areas are coming off a fantastic fall weather day on Saturday and some will see more of the same today. Things will soon change as showers and thunderstorms become more common over the next few days. This will lead to a drop in temps with the coldest air of the young fall season waiting in the wings for the end of the week.

Let’s break it down…

– A scattered shower or thunderstorm will be possible today across central and eastern Kentucky. The heaviest rain and possible strong storms will be across the western half of the state. Temps for many will hit the 70s.

– This line of rain and storms is right on the eastern flank of our big upper level low that is closed off just to our west. This system will slowly work eastward into Monday and Tuesday.

– Rain and some thunderstorms will increase from west to east tonight and Monday. Locally heavy rains area  good bet.

– The low is looking even slower and will likely impact our weather through Wednesday with some scattered showers, gusty winds and cooler temps. Highs Tuesday into Wednesday will struggle to get out of the 60s for a lot of areas.

– Thursday looks to be a fairly warm day as winds crank up and afternoon clouds increase ahead of a cold front.

– This front blasts through here early Friday with some scattered showers and gusty winds. The air behind this front is likely to be the coldest we have had since spring. Take a look at the impressive chill showing up on the latest European Model…

– Many models now suggest a real potential for temps to dip into the 30s by Saturday morning. That would mean some patchy frost would be possible. We still have plenty of time to watch this, so don’t get too carried away just yet.

– Another cold shot may then arrive on the scene into early the following week as October looks to start off on a chilly note.
