Good Sunday afternoon, gang. Things continue to progress nicely toward a significant blast of winter to impact our region over the next couple of days. I’ve seen nothing this morning that would make me think much differently than what I already put out there. Of course, a few changes will have to be made to tighten up the snow numbers and placement. That’s always the case as we get closer to an event. That will come later this evening with a Final Call For Snowfall.
The Weather Prediction Center (similar to the Storm Prediction Center for severe weather) is pretty gung-ho on the potential for 4″+ snows across parts of the region. Check out the moderate risk they have…
That matches up well with the areas I’ve been highlighting for the potential heaviest snowfall. See… I’m not the only one thinking about this band of heavy snow setting up late tonight and Monday morning. 🙂
Much of the region is under a Winter Weather Advisory with a WINTER STORM WARNING out for northern Kentucky…
Don’t be surprised if areas farther southwest along the Ohio River near Louisville get upgraded to a warning.
I’m becoming more interested in the snow showers and squalls coming behind this Monday afternoon into Monday evening. These can cause some issues area-wide and put down additional accumulations. As a matter of fact, the WPC is showing some love to eastern Ky with a slight risk of 4″ snows on that northwesterly wind…
Updates later today. Take care.
Lets bring some of those 4″ snow squalls to SE KY please!
Somerset out of it? Looks like no snow day Monday!!!!!
Ahhhhh….Patsy. Have faith, girl!!!
As usual we get the cold rain and a little taste of snow at the end. So things remain the same. But we do get the cold. Something in that just ain’t right! ;). Thanks Chris. Have a great Sunday afternoon all. P.S. Chris, the rain is a very cold miserable rain.
My own rule of thumb is to always cut forecast totals in half. A 2-6″ forecast is 1-3″ to me and a 1-3″ would be 1/2″ to 1 and 1/2″. I think Lexington will end up getting half an inch to one and a half, and even I feel like that’s being too generous.
South-Central KY also gets locked out again (as usual…).
However, I’m looking further on down the road to Thanksgiving week. Chances are good for a MAJOR weather event!!
Most the sites I looked at had us near 50 for Thanksgiving.I do
hope it is cool. Are you saying it looks to be cold and possibly snowy?
Based on the Typhoon & Bering Sea rules. It will be more evident by next weekend.
Last year in November, we had a decent cold snap with 30’s and 40’s for seven consecutive days. Peak area for U.S. snow coverage was 37.8%, which was impressive for November.
As of this morning, we’re at 37.0%. Those numbers are likely to go up, easily eclipsing last November’s snow coverage.
Winter Storm Warnings now up in the counties north of the Ohio River and southwest through Owensboro and Henderson. WWA extended further south and east. This could get interesting!
Same story as last year . Rain with little snow on backside of the system. But it is still november and very early in the season. Hopefully we get some snow this year.
The entire Ohio River basin from western KY to Cincinnati under Winter Storm Warnings now. Louisville not included right now.
why not!
That’s funny Jefferson Oldham and Henry county’s are being left out of the WSW warning for now really makes no sense those 3 county’s hug the Ohio River. That’s weird to have a 3 county gap.
You would think Jeff and Oldham for sure.
They have both been in the bullseye in almost every model and run. Plus, as you said, they both touch the river.
But, then again if you ask certain expert MET’s out of Louisville, we are going to see 1-3″ at best. So, I guess the map looks good where it stands. 😉
one word…………….YUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For a lot us folks, warm air wins again as far as precipitation. At least not ice 🙂
Did you ever expect anything else?
Nah. I expect rinse and repeat as usual.
lol. ain’t that the truth…..
Man, this is a COLD rain..
All joking aside honestly, anyone really know why most of the time in a rain or snow event that the transition zone between rain and and accumulation amours always seem to be right at fayette county area? Is it the terrain , or elevation or just bad luck? I’ve all ways wondered?
Combination of al three. With the way weather seems to avoid South Central Kentucky, I sometimes think that Bowling Green sits under a dome
Oh no, the southern counties are out of the advisory? 🙁
